American trance duo, Chad Cisneros and Dave Reed who call Austin, Texas home follow up their UMF ASOT 600 performance with the release of their new 3 track “Metamorphic I” EP. The duo have just relaunched their radio show in a new platform “Tritonia” as a tribute to the fans who make it all happen, kickstarting a new beginning in 2013. They have developed much of the same complex we have seen with other trance producers like Ferry Corsten, who produce more traditional, albeit genre pushing trance, however their sets and radio shows encompass everything from big room, to electro, to the more traditional uplifters, like the tracks they produce.

The EP shows the many directions the duo can go with their sound, from a more ambient to trance to some more festival ready, hard hitting electro trance. The EP starts with the single “Bullet That Saved Me” featuring vocals from Underdown. The track starts with a smooth, calming build, featuring the male vocals from Underdown and then vaults you into a pitched lead and a minimal, percussive drop that works outstandingly for Tritonal in the live arena. The next track is a total 180 degree switch in energy — the soothing “Bring Me Down” featuring the angelic vocals from Meredith Call brings together a beautiful instrumental of orchestral strings, subtle piano and atmospheric pads that create this very chilled, relaxing track, totally switching up the mood in the EP. The last track on the EP, “Deep Into Black” follows along a similar vein as “Bring Me Down” with a soothing piano melody and choral vocal bits that slowly develop over the space of the song, but never give you a “drop”, just one smooth ride from start to finish.

Metamorphic I” is the first of three, three track EPs to be released this year, so stay tuned to this space for more info on Tritonal. Check out the latest episode of Tritonia below to get a sample of what is to come, which just so happens to be their live set from Ultra.

Trance | Omnia – The Light

Posted by on March 27, 2013

omnia the light

At this point, it would appear that Omnia is basically incapable of dropping anything other than insanely catchy bangers. Let’s take a look at his track record — the young Ukrainian producer is responsible for 2012 standouts “Infina,” “No One Home,” “Hearts Connected,” and of course “The Fusion.” His latest is in keeping with this trend, thanks to dramatic, agile chord progressions that are impossible to shake from your head. While “The Light” got a soft release as part of Armin van Buuren’s A State Of Trance 2013 compilation, it officially dropped on Monday via Coldharbour Recordings. Anyone in attendance at ASOT 600 in Miami on Sunday will surely remember hearing it in Markus Schulz’s mindblowing, relentless set — as one of the penultimate tracks, it whipped the crowd into an absolute frenzy.

Electro, Trance | Ummet Ozcan – Here & Now

Posted by on March 25, 2013

You could not go an hour without hearing his collab with W&W “The Code” on the various stages at Ultra across the two weekends and with his previous single “The Box”, still meandering its way into sets, it is fair to say Ummet Ozcan is here to stay. “Here & Now” represents the harder, more in your face sound we have heard in his hits lately but still remains true to his trance roots with bombastic synths, a driving bass line, distorted key play and soothing progressive trance interludes. “Here & Now” is already picking up support from the likes of Porter Robinson, W&W, Arty, Sander van Doorn and many more, so do not miss this one.

Trance | Kyau & Albert – Glühwürmchen

One of my favorite cuts from Anjunabeats Volume 10, Kyau & Albert’s “Glühwürmchen” get its full single release in the aftermath of the compilation that has already seen the release of Norin & Rad’s “Aldo“. “Glühwürmchen” embodies the current sound of Anjunabeats with a slowed down tempo, gritty low end and an infectious melody. Coming off of the release of their artist album “Nights Awake” last month, Kyau & Albert are off a to a very good start this year.

South African producer (and one of our DJs to watch in 2013) Protoculture hits it out of the park with “Laguna,” his first original release since his 2012 smash “Perpetual Motion.” A catchy, dramatic hook and ethereal vocals set this track apart from the pack — it’s easily one of my favorites from the A State of Trance 2013 compilation. Though Protoculture won’t be joining The Expedition when it lands in Miami next week, expect to hear plenty of “Laguna” now that the season is upon us.

With the release of Anjunabeats Volume 10 in our rearview mirror, we now will see the single releases of the tracks on that oustanding compilation. First up comes from North Californian duo Norin & Rad, who have had a somewhat quiet start to the year supporting Above & Beyond on tour in Australia and in the US, while working on finishing up material for their upcoming album. With its genre defying sound “Aldo”, combines a progressive bass line with strong synth chords and atmospheric pads for this euphoric track that is sure to remain strong in the Anjunabeats and Norin & Rad catalogue for months to come. Next up on the docket is my favorite from the entire compilation, Kyau & Albert’s “Glühwürmchen”. If you have not read our recent chat with Norin & Rad, do so here.

It is that time again and you need these mixes to push through the weekend and to get you through spring break. We start off with Avicii’s much talked about Diplo & Friends mix that is more funk and old school than what you would expect from the Swedish superstar. In celebration of Anjunabeats Volume 10, The Drop has put together an all Anjunabeats episode with tracks old and new in the mix. Listen at 3pm on Tiesto Club Life’s channel on Siruis XM for their entry in the College Invasion radio contest. Next up we have the March edition of Hysteria Radio from the Bingo players that includes an exclusive first play of the Dada Life remix of “Out Of My Mind”. Forging on we have a mix from Cazzette for Liquified Radio and Magnetic Festival that includes a host of their own tracks from their recent three part “Eject” album. After the jump are more mixes from Walden, Avicii, Arty and Armin.
