Moombahton | Nicky Romero & Nervo – Like Home (Dillon Francis Remix)
Posted by Spice on December 17, 2012
In his remix of “Like Home,” Dillon Francis brings his hallmark sound to Nicky Romero and Nervo’s big collaboration. It’s more or less what you’d expect — bright, high leads and a bouncy drop — but it’s a fun and upbeat listen that will be great live. I’d love to see Dillon explore a different direction going forward, but for the time being his distinctive style has legs.

Progressive House | Mat Zo & Porter Robinson – Easy
Posted by Spice on December 17, 2012
Unless you’ve been seriously out of the loop for the past few weeks, you’ll know that former tour mates Mat Zo and Porter Robinson recently joined forces on a monster collaboration. The fruit of their labor is now available on Beatport, and I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t one of my favorite tracks in recent memory. “Easy” basically epitomizes what you want to be blasting as you leave work on a Friday afternoon — it’s a feel good, sing-a-long anthem that’s already seen major live set support from heavyweights like Armin van Buuren and Tiesto. Get this track now because it’s poised to take over in 2013.

Trance | Jaytech – Multiverse
Posted by Spice on December 12, 2012
With the full single package for the title track off of Jaytech’s recent artist album, Above & Beyond and the Anjuna team continue to prove that they’re willing to push the boundaries of trance. “Multiverse” in its original incarnation is a funky, deep house-inflected jam; the club mix maintains that sound and adds some heft to the bassline, while Audien brings in big, euphoric synths to the breakdown. Expect to see heavy support for this remix from other Anjuna artists — Audien is definitely one to watch in 2013. Rounding out the package is Russian up-and-comer Mimax, who gives the track a fresh, progressive vibe thanks to a new hook.

FYI | Al Walser: The Definitive Guide

If you’re among the dwindling percentage of the population that considers the Grammys to be a relevant barometer of today’s music scene, this was probably an exciting morning for you. Nominations for the 2013 awards (where we honor songs from 2012; yes, it’s all terribly confusing) have arrived — and in true Grammys fashion, there are some absolute curveballs thrown into an otherwise dull and predictable mix. Chief among them:
1. No nominations for Bieber. Cue mass Belieber outrage. God willing, however, the Biebs will still get tapped to perform, and in doing so will treat us to yet another glorious display of those drop crotch Hammer-pant legging things he so favors.
2. “Levels” was apparently released after October 2, 2011 and thus qualifies for a nomination.
3. Al Walser.
Since we’re assuming that this is the first you’re hearing of Al, we’ve prepared this handy guide to get you up to speed with the man of the hour. Check out the high budget marvel that is the above video, and then join us after the jump.
Trance | Ferry Corsten – Silfra
Posted by Spice on December 3, 2012
I’m not sure how this managed to fly below the radar. Inspired by a summer trip to Iceland and as a “thank you” to his fans, Ferry Corsten brings us “Silfra,” a melodic, progressive track that speaks to his roots as a producer. Trance fans will no doubt be pleased by the somewhat nostalgic vibe here — and the fact that it’s a free download. And if the album artwork is any indication, I think it’s safe to say that he’s captured the essence of the place. Check it out below.
Dubstep, Mashups | KOAN Sound vs. Will Smith – Sly Fox of Bel Air (James Scott Bootleg)
Posted by Spice on November 30, 2012
Happy Friday FNT nation. I don’t normally fool around with mashups but this one is too good to pass up. For maximum fun tonight, treat your friends to this sweet bootleg that mashes KOAN Sound’s “Sly Fox” with the legendary anthem that is the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme. Skrillex has been known to toy with Will Smith’s verse in his live sets, but he hasn’t thought of this particular combination — “Sly Fox” is the perfect swingy backdrop for this 90’s classic. For more tunes, check out James Scott’s Soundcloud.
House | Kaskade vs. Tommy Trash/Tommy Trash & Sebastian Ingrosso – Empty Streets Cascade & Eyes Reloaded (Kaskade Mashups)
Posted by Spice on November 19, 2012
Pardon the intense looking title. Mondays always bring great new original mashups from Kaskade, and today we’ve got two that are total fire — one’s a freebie, one’s streaming only, but both are absolutely awesome (happily, however, my favorite of the two is the one that’s downloadable). Kaskade’s a master of his craft and Tommy Trash and Sebastian Ingrosso aren’t exactly slouches either, so consider these autodownloads (where applicable, anyway). Turn on and tune in on this mashup Monday.
