Progressive House | Tiësto – Red Lights
Posted by Middy on December 18, 2013
We are seeing a trend here with dance music stars. Now that the biggest and most important music market in the world has bought in to dance music, DJs want a piece of the very lucrative pop pie. This is convenient because pop music is going in the dance direction, notably since the inroads made by Guetta with his tracks in the late 2000s, but it also requires DJs to meet the pop scene half way.
Hits like “Alive”, “Clarity” and “Get Lucky” didn’t sound engineered for radio, but ended up there anyway, but recently tracks like Afrojack’s “The Spark”, Armin van Buuren’s “This Is What It Feels Like”, Ferry Corsten’s “Many Ways” and now “Red Lights” all demonstrate the move to try and appeal to much wider audience. DJs no longer want to be the anonymous guy in the corner spinning tracks, they want to be brands, superstars and with commercial, crossover appeal coming easier every day, you can expect that to become more and more the norm.
The song is incredibly catchy and destined for radio; undoubtably its original purpose. It is the first of three singles from Tiësto’s upcoming album signed to Universal set for release next year. It will be his first album since “Kaleidoscope” back in 2010, so expect something very different. You can get a sneak peak at the process behind it including his producers Matt Nash & Dave Silcox in the studio, and how tracks were chosen on the fifth episode of In The Booth.

Electro-House | Wolfgang Garnter – Piranha
Posted by Middy on December 18, 2013
Consistently one of the most innovative minds in electro house, and in dance music in general, Wolfgang Gartner has been a pioneer from the moment he started. Capping off another great year that has seen the resurgence of his label, Kindergarten Recordings, the cat loving American releases his new single “Piranha”. “Piranha” has the unique electro sound you want from Wolfgang, with a foreboding synth lead, a punchy bass line and glitchy, melodic excellence. Like a piranha, this track won’t just come after you once, but rather slowly beat you into submission with each subtle element over the entire duration of the song.

Progressive House | Tom Swoon & Paris Blohm feat. Hadouken – Synchronize

American producer, Paris Blohm & Polish producer, Tom Swoon come together to form their new single “Synchronize” with outstanding vocals coming from Hadouken. The two synchronize their talents in creating a top notch melody that is the featured element of this tack. Hadouken adds just the right type and amount of vocals to this feel-good progressive song. “Synchonize” is an outstanding way to cap off banner years for both guys, with even more originals, collabs and remixes to come in 2014.

Progressive House | Arty, Matisse & Sadko – RIOT
Posted by Middy on December 16, 2013
The Russian team who brought us the magical track on Axtone last year, “Trio”, Arty & Matisse & Sadko finish out their year with “RIOT”. You know what you are going to get with these three: stadium sized, sublime melodies and “RIOT” is just that, another flawless performance from these three. Spinnin’ has been become known for its somewhat repetitive festival-ready releases, so it is nice to see one of their bigger tracks come in the form of something melodic like “RIOT”.

Electro-House | Vandalism & FTampa – Yes

Vicious Records label boss, Vandalism teams up with one of the most talented members on their artist roster, Brazilian producer FTampa to create the festival sized track “Yes”. It has been heavily supported by Dutch wunderkind, Martin Garrix, lending to its festival ready nature, and should see some play as the outdoor dance music events head down under. It has been an outstanding year from FTampa, and look for that to continue in 2014. Remixes come in from Orkestrated & Fredy See.

It is no secret, the Australians have been churning out talented producers at a remarkable clip lately. Three of them, Ivan Gough, Walden & Jebu have come together on this melodic, barn stormer that features the piercing female vocals of fellow Aussie singer, Penelope Austin. The Stephan Dabruck remix fits it for the current festival climate down under.
