Arguably the Wolf Gang’s best rapper, Hodgy Beats releases an Untitled EP that for all you hip hop lovers is a must download. Hodgy’s smooth flow over these beats are just pure enjoyment to the ears. Getting production from notables such as Juicy J, Thelonius Martin, The Alchemist, and even Flying Lotus, Hodgy takes these beats and straight kills them but in a way more laid back version. My favorites are Cookie Coma, Higashi Loves You, and Samurai. Chill to this, smoke to this, do whatever you want to this, but just make sure you listen to it.

Finally. After all those videos and releases the New York group, Upper West, finally drops off their newest mixtape, West Side Stories. The refreshing beats mixed with catchy hooks and dope verses make for one of my favorite tapes of the year. These dudes are oozing with talent and this is only the beginning for them. That more or less sums up my feelings toward this years XXL Freshman edition. Also its about goddamn time Macklemore got some well deserved attention. Having said that, can you tell me who the other people in this picture are? Now obviously that’s a joke but seriously besides MGK, Roscoe, French Montana, and Danny Brown, who are these people and why are they relevant? I’ve heard a couple of them but couldn’t match a face and a name. Seriously, this thing has gone from winning the Superbowl last year, or whatever championship that tickles your fancy, to going maybe 2-14(being nice?). What a quality nose dive. That class from last year alone was one of the sickest I’ve seen, and I know what you’re thinking, how could it not be when LIL B is in it! #THANKYOUBASEDGOD.

G-Eazy goes with all original production on this nice laid back track. Recruiting a good voice for the hook, G throws some nice bars on this one. Before you say anything, yes that is my beautiful face in the presence of the awesomely chill duo of Aer. I was fortunate enough to meet up for an interview with Carter and David before their show at Reggie’s Rock Club in Chicago last Saturday. It’s pretty scary to think these guys, who are a year older than me, are already an EP and two mixtapes deep and are collecting a continuously growing fan base. FNT will represent our questions and C will stand for Carter and D for David.
FNT: How has Sam Adams’ success impacted you since you guys are from the same town?
D:He’s set an example of what you can do coming from a small town and blowing up on the internet and just running with it.
C: Ya he’s a good mentor for getting advice and a good person to talk to.
FNT: How was it like to hit #1 on iTunes? What were you’re reactions?
D: It didn’t really settle in like most of our other stuff. I can’t describe it haha.
C: It was crazy to see it rise from it being like 26 then going to #1 in the same day. Pretty
indescribable.
