Oberka’s ‘Regrow Protocol’ is Daring Journey Through Chaos and Rebirth

Posted by on July 8, 2025

Taiwanese electronic music visionary Oberka, the creative alias of producer Huang Shao Yong, has delivered an audacious new chapter in his sonic exploration with Regrow Protocol, a 10-track album that defies easy categorization. Released under his own Dark Paradise Records imprint, the album is a bold experiment in sound design and structure — a thrilling fusion of chaos and clarity, rhythm and rupture, noise and narrative.

At the heart of the album is the explosive title track “Regrow Protocol,” which perfectly encapsulates the project’s core philosophy: destruction as a vital precursor to reinvention. What started as a playful live experiment in a Hong Kong hotel room—layering chopped pig “oinks” beneath hypnotic gamelan and balafon loops—evolved into a high-impact sonic statement reworked with warped vocal chops and pulsating rhythmic tension in 2025. This track embodies Oberka’s fearless, unpredictable approach to electronic music, where genre boundaries dissolve and new worlds are forged.

Crafted over nearly a year, Regrow Protocol represents Oberka’s most refined and conceptually rich work to date. Drawing from improvised live sessions, long-form demos, and experimental sampling, the album unfolds like a fractured ecosystem in flux. Tracks like the glitch-heavy “Frog” and the evocative “Please Remember” each contribute to a mosaic of dark energy and cryptic beauty, inviting listeners to unravel the complex textures and rhythms woven throughout.
