Zedd – Spectrum EP
Posted by Spice on July 31, 2012
I hope you’re not sick of hearing “Spectrum,” because the full remix package is finally out and it delivers everything you could possibly want and more. So let’s just run right on down the list….after the jump, because there’s a lot going on here.
In a move that should surprise absolutely no one, Armin van Buuren ties Matthew Koma’s soaring vocals to a flawless, shimmering trance background that debuted to much praise on his ASOT radio show. And then the #TranceFamily smiled and gave thanks to their heavenly father, and there was much rejoicing in the land.
A-Trak and Clockwork chop Matthew Koma’s vocals and glitch up the synths, resulting in an energetic and hard-hitting powerhouse of a track that deftly augments the intensity of the original. This is probably my least favorite of the bunch, however — the original vocals are just so good that they should remain untouched.
Arty’s remix might be one of my favorite tracks of the entire summer — the chilling, orchestral chords he weaves into the chorus give a well-worn anthem a totally new sound, and are as stunning and frission-inducing as anything out there.
Beatport has tagged Deniz Koyu’s remix as progressive house, but it’s really not — it’s new-wave electro-trance, combining the hypnotic, cyclical elements of trance with the pulsing torque and crowd-ready builds of electro house. Cool.
Tristan Garner and Gregori Klosman strip away all of the excess, leaving us with a dark and ominous hook atop a grinding four-on-the-floor frame. And is that a French horn?
Congorock’s take on “Spectrum” has a spacey tech-house vibe that surges breathlessly through a giant build back into that glitchy, almost robotic theme. I love how this manages to feel simultaneously retro and totally new.
And finally — finally! — we get some blinding, ferocious wobbles from Monsta, whose knuckle-clenching treatment does pretty much exactly what you’d want in a dubstep version of “Spectrum.” Not much else to say.
So there you have it. Every single one of these remixes is amazing, so I strongly urge you to head over to Beatport and download all of your favorites.
