Progressive House | Danzfolk – Colorado Cavalry

Danzfolk - Colorado CavalryA little learning with house music? Danzfolk do it for the kids. With their MYTHOS trilogy in the books, the duo turn their attention to events that actually happened, notably happenings south of the border (Canadian border that is). With another big, cinematic tune, the duo bring us back to 1864 and the Sandcreek Massacre, using all sorts of sounds of the day like a church bell, horses and the like to create the proper historical atmosphere. I can’t tell if this is representative of 148 Native Americans being slaughtered, but I assume this sounds waaaay better then that.

Progressive House | Danzfolk – Osiris

Danzfolk - Osiris
I have been telling you all about these guys and slowly people are starting to listen, but not like they should be. Their productions are polished beyond their years and only get better each time. This is the third and final tune in their “MYTHOS” trilogy, that took us from the high seas, to the shores of Crête to now the underworld of Egyptian mythology. As they explain,

“Osiris’ was the god of the dead, and ruler of the underworld. Throughout the height of Egyptian civilization, Osiris was the primary deity. In power, he was second to only his father, Ra, and was the leader of the gods on earth. Osiris resided in the underworld as the lord of the dead, as after being killed by Set, even though he was a god, he could no longer dwell in the land of the living. After Osiris was killed, Isis resurrected him with the Ritual of Life, which was later given to the Egyptians so that they could give eternal life to all their dead. The spells and rituals cast by Isis, plus many others given to the people by the gods over the centuries, were collected into The Book of the Dead. In the underworld, Osiris sits on a great throne, where he is praised by the souls of the just.

The tune has a strong Middle Eastern flavor to it with a strong, bouncy and bodacious bass line and a well-crafted melody. All three tunes in the series are must downloads and this is the cherry on top.

Progressive House | Danzfolk – Talos

Danzfolk - Talos

I have been singing these guys’ praises for some time now and with the second volume of their epic MYTHOS trilogy in the books, I hope you can see why. No I don’t represent them, but just believe their music should be in front of more people. With “Leviathan” in the books, they head to Greece to unveil their next myth “Talos”. Taken from their soundcloud page, read below for some background on the myth,

‘Talos’ was a gigantic creature and guardian of Crete. Zeus presented him to his lover, Europa, as her personal protector from pirates and invaders. Talos was given the task of patrolling the island, circling it three times in a day. The giant did not allow any enemy ships to approach, hurling massive rocks to sink the wooden ships of those who dared to threaten Crete. If any managed to escape these and set foot on land, a horrific surprise lay in store for them. Talos entered a fire until his bronze body was red hot. Then he clasped his enemies in a tight embrace, burning them to death. Their bodies were found with their mouths wide open in agony and horror.

Exactly like the purpose of this series, the song has a mystical nature to it. “Talos” tells a story, one that builds beautifully like the island of Crete and then strikes with the controlled aggression of the song’s namesake. The tune is free and is about as good as free gets. If you want more Danzfolk, listen to this mix from them below.

Progressive House | Danzfolk – Leviathan

Danzfolk - Leviathan

Back in September, I made the statement that Danzfolk could be the next big progressive house duo out of Canadian in the mold of Dzeko & Torres. They have been quiet since their debut EP back then, but are ready to break the silence with a trio of releases titled “MYTHOS” and look to prove me right. The first of the trilogy is the aptly named “Leviathan”, which is just as huge and potent as the mystical creature itself. The tune combines cinematic elements, highlighted by an epic string build, leading to powerful, melodic electro synth chords. Mythos is just beginning and buckle up because if “Leviathan” is any indication of what’s to come, we are in for a treat with the next two.
