News | Mett Oliver Malcolm, the newest member to join the Darkroom/Interscope family

Posted by on November 11, 2019

If you’re a fan of Masego, AlunaGeorge, IDK, Ari Lennox, or the like, you should be excited for 2020 because the mastermind behind the productions of these established artists is about to launch his own career in a matter of months. Oliver Malcolm is his name but many of you may know him as Big Kidd.

The 20-year-old Swedish multi-instrumentalist has been behind the scenes of some our favorite artists across a myriad of genres, but it seems he has his own story to tell. Oliver Malcolm has announced his signing to Darkroom/Interscope Records, the label behind Billie Eilish and more, and is set to release new music sometime in the near future.

The best way to describe this kid’s style is indescribable. If you take a listen through his discography, you can tell it’s him. Yet, every time he steps up, it’s like he’s trying to one-up himself. I’m ready for Oliver Malcolm and can’t wait to share his new music.

The third iteration of Mysteryland USA is right around the corner, and as we count down the days until June 10th, there’s a lot to plan, and even more to listen to. The ID&T-produced festival has already unveiled two phases of its stand-out lineup, and this year promises to be the biggest and best edition of the festival in America to date. Over the course of two days, nearly 100 artists will call Bethel Woods home, from headliners like ODESZA, Skrillex, and Bassnectar, to stellar undercard offerings like Gesaffelstein, Claude VonStroke, REZZ, amongst others, spread across six stages of bumping music. With so many can’t-miss artists to see, and even more activities to do at the festival, it’s tough to decide which artists take priority, and which ones will fall by the wayside, and schedule conflicts only serve as yet another source of anxiety before the festival.

In a new editorial series leading up to this year’s Mysteryland USA, we’re spotlighting an artist on the lineup that we consider can’t-miss for the weekend. Whether its because of a phenomenal live show, a brand new album, or stellar DJing skills, we hope that this spotlight series will help you wade through some of teh schedule conflicts easier. You can get your tickets to Mysteryland here.

This week’s Mysteryland USA spotlight is the SNL comedian, Kyle Mooney.

As a Trojan, it always makes my day to see another member of the Trojan family succeed, and as a blogger, it’s in my civic (collegiate?) duty to support any fellow Trojans in their endeavors. Justin Jay was, by no means, an unknown when he was an undergraduate student at USC, considering his first-ever dirtybird release came his freshman year after he sent a demo to Claude VonStroke himself. Now, four years later and diploma in hand, Justin Jay is bringing it back to the imprint that started it all for him with his Mom, I Graduated EP. The young phenom unveiled the lead single off of the EP, “Hit It,” a few weeks ago, but now, he’s showing off another underground weapon in “Rain Dance.” Tribal influenced synths drive the track through twists and turns of bubbling bass lines and groove-driven melodies, and Jay even pushes his comfort zone by sampling his own voice for the first time ever on a track. The full EP is out now on Beatport, so don’t sleep on it!

Last night, the whole EDM community lost an influential, fun, and well-liked member. Paul Baümer, half of  the Dutch duo Bingo Players, passed away after his five-month battle with cancer.

This morning, his bandmate Maarten Hoogstraten posted the tragic news to the artists’ Facebook page saying:

Although the news came as a shock to many in the community, Paul posted about his diagnosis on July 19 after missing a series of summer performances. He was a character with many fans that looked up to him, especially after the Bingo Players’ hit track “Rattle” that debuted in 2012. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family. Look out for more updates from the FNT team.

Lazy Sunday calls for Bruno Mars’ “The Lazy Song” remixed by French duo Krono. Brothers Mickael et David Couderc bring the bass, and twist the Bruno Mars pop record into a French house dance floor banger. Can’t say this record is my favorite from Bruno, but this remix I’ll listen to any day! Krono managed to make Mr. Mars sound like the 6th member of the Jackson Five, and it’s all soul! Enjoy the free download, and look forward to hearing more from these 2!
