2014 was a huge year for Chicago born rapper and FNT regular Mayo and it appears 2015 is going to be no different. In a genre overcrowded with artists jumping on sampled beats and recycling hooks from yesterday, Mayo has constantly provided extremely original music and unique, yet epic, collaborations. In his latest collab, Mayo teamed up with Australian DJ/Producer Akouo and Indie artist Monsoonsiren. In this extremely unique collab the trio successfully creates a sound that truly brings aspects of their respected genres to life.

Mayo’s back with a Summer banger “Rock With You” and it’s silky smooth. Produced by Milo Mills, “Rock With You” has a bounce to it that you just can’t not feel, and I know this one is going to connect with the ladies, and the fellas for that matter, especially all of your Drake lovers. I have to admit this is my first time listening to Mayo, and lately I’ve been skeptical when it comes to hip hop, as jazz productions and monotonous weird flows are just becoming redundant, and boring, so it’s always refreshing to hear a rap song that I can cruise to with my girl by my side. This is def a must listen!

Mayo drops off his newest track/video, which will be featured on his upcoming mixtape “Dream Big.” The song features much deeper and meaningful lyrics from Mayo. The beat he chose is perfect for the tone of the song, and lets him deliver his verses smoothly and soulfully. Mayo had this to say about the track,
“[t]his track is one of my personal favorites off my mixtape; not because of the heavy lyrical content of the song, but more of what I had to say in the track. I feel like it is one of my realest tracks I have made and hope everyone can really vibe out and enjoy this track it is somewhat of a different release from me, but I find different to be better in some cases. I can’t wait to release my mixtape this summer I have been putting a lot of work into but for now enjoy this new track and visual!”

I’m sure the name “Mayo” is unfamiliar to you. But as Clinton Sparks says, “Get Familiar.” Because Mayo is a name you’ll be seeing a lot of. Picking a Paul Judge beat to murder, Mayo shows us a relentless, commanding flow. Although the chorus does feel very a bit repetitive, both of Mayo’s verses are enough to overshadow that small flaw. At this point, remixes have to be pretty unique to stand out to me. Mayo’s remix of Common’s Blue Sky was. It was a pretty courageous move to go in over a beat used by the Drake dissing Common, but it paid off. The 17 year old has a commanding flow, that will only get better with age. This remix is just a taste of what we’ll be seeing on his sophomore mixtape. The Blue Sky is the limit for young Mayo, like his facebook page, and be sure to check back on FNT to see his progress.
