Events | Support Announced for North American Leg of Swedish House Mafia One Last Tour

Time has flown by since Swedish House Mafia announced up and final world tour. They have already rocked Europe, South East Asia, are now in South Africa and in a few short days take over Australia, the site where “Don’t You Worry Child” was born. In a little under 2 weeks they will be making their landfall in Mexico and with them they are bringing along some great talent as support for each of the shows. They will be joined by the likes of Otto Knows, Armand Van Helden, AN21 & Max Vangeli, Pete Tong & more. Get ready for their final send off, because it is going to be wild. They have also announced another auction for the Black Tie Rave on February 28th, which raised 447,000 dollars the first time around. House | Mimada’s Top 12 for 2012

With the renaissance of music festivals and growing popularity of electronic music, it’s safe to say my attendance to live shows grew exponentially in 2012 (not that I had that many years under my belt to begin with). However, this really changed my perception of music and how I listened to it. Before, I would see an artist based on my familiarity with them and listen to their songs on repeat in the parking lot until moments leading up to the show. Now, it’s more so that I attend a concert based on the artist’s live talent and/or how much fun the performance will be. When I hear their songs in the future, I get sentiments of that first time I heard it sitting outside in a grassy field surrounded by flag holders or squished up against girls in moonboots rather than it’s premier on SiriXM radio. For me, music in 2012 was not about what would get me out of bed in the morning or play in the background at the gym while I worked out: it was what I could dive into and take me away from any known reality. I guess it’s always kind of been that way, but once you get a peek at my top 12, I think you’ll understand what I mean.

Events | Mat Zo North American Winter Tour

Basking in the hype of his collab “Easy” with Porter Robinson that is set to release in March of next year, Mat Zo prepares to debark on a year ending North American tour, finishing off a banner year for rising star. He will start this Thursday in San Diego, making his way along the West Coast and then finishing off with Porter Robinson & The M Machine at Congress Theater in Chicago on NYE in what should be an incredible show. Preview, Progressive House | Mat Zo & Porter Robinson – Easy (Preview)

First premiered by Mat Zo at Trance Around the World 450 / Group Therapy Radio 001 in Bangalore India, “Easy” has all the makings of being the follow up to “Language” and “The Sky” from Porter Robinson and Mat Zo respectively. A collab born from their time touring together (you can catch both of them in Chicago on New Years) and a blossoming friendship, this track combines the best of both worlds from these two, bringing out the melodic side of Porter’s sound with subtle gruffness, while adding the eclectic nature of Mat Zo and adding addicting vocals to make it a totally unique track. No info on release date, but it should be out soon on Anjunabeats / Ministry of Sound.

When you see a new Mat Zo track, you really have no idea what blissful sounds are going to be cascading into your ears the moment you hit play. You know it will be a superb production from beginning to end and a feeling of joy will linger long after the last note has dissipated into the space around you. He could send you into a primal frenzy with tracks such as “Mozart”, “Rebound” or “It’s Yours” or sooth your soul into a trance with “The Lost”, “Near The End” or my favorite mashup ever “Satellite Dynamics” using the Arty’s remix of his “Synapse Dynamics” and Ocean Lab “Satellite”. Then there are those you cannot really pin down Like “Bipolar”, “Frequency Flyer”, “Superman” (which we have an exclusive free download for you guys) or Tate & Diamond Feat Nicolai (Electrified (Mat Zo Electrofied Dub).

Mat Zo is a known quantity in EDM having been releasing tracks since the young age of 16 and at 17 was tabbed by Tiesto to remix “Driving To Heaven” on the 7th edition of his peerless compilation album “In Search of Sunrise”. Since then, Mat Zo has been steadily growing in fame and as a producer, with releases on Markus Schulz’s Coldharbor Recordings, AVA Records, and most importantly, Anjunabeats. He also has a drum n’ bass moniker MRSA that was quite active on Hospital Records from 2008-2010, but has since gone into a sort of hibernation. This shows the eclectic nature of Mat Zo and how easily he can make any sort of music. I do not want to bore you before the interview so make sure to catch him on the “Language Tour” with Porter Robinson & The M Machine this summer coming to a city near you. 1. FNT: “This whole genres business is like the Berlin wall, and I’m there with a forklift and a wrecking ball” Mat Zo, September 2011. What is your creative process ie do you start with melodies first and work from there and how do you build your sound in each song. How do you decide what to put in your sets because they include music from a variety of genres?

Mat Zo: I always start with the main idea/theme then build around that. When I choose music to play out all I’m really looking for is something that will move a crowd. Genres don’t really play a role in that.

2. FNT: You started as a guitar player at 8 years old and your mom was a professional violinist. How did this influence you to move towards music and how did you shift towards dance music?

Mat Zo: I started liking dance music at an early age so it grew with me as much as coming from a musical family did.

3. FNT: Your half sister Alma Zohar is a successful singer. Who gets more praise from your parents when you guys are all together and who would you say is more talented?

Mat Zo: Haha! She is definitely a better lyricist.

The eclectic Mat Zo has provided the world with a single to follow up his potent Bipolar EP. Mat Zo or MRSA or MRZO, his Drum N Bass monikers, is known for pushing the boundaries of genre or totally ignoring them, making music that incorporates many different types of sounds and rhythms into one track. To really stand out now a days you not only have to be able to have your own unique sound, but also be able to have many different sounds and Mat Zo has done that. “The Sky” uses angelic vocals from Linnea Schossow, a moving bass line, emotive synth melodies and adept key play culminate in a hands in air break. Mat Zo in preparation for going on Porter Robinson’s “Language Tour” with The M Machine released this 50 minute mix with tracks ranging from Mord Fustang to Eric Prydz to Mat Zo himself. DJ-Set, Progressive House | Dj Mixes: Pierce Fulton, Ludovika & Tommy Trash

These two young Djs put together mixes that are great for a party, studying or casual day drinking. Pierce Fulton puts together a more diverse tracklist from progressive to electro to more mellow house tracks with tracks from Pryda, Mat Zo, Tommy Trash, Pierce himself and others. Ludovika puts together a very unique set in that he uses this set to preview 7 unreleased tracks of his within the the mix. They vary in style from hard hitting electro tracks to big room progressive bombs driven by a strong piano melody. He puts together over twenty tracks in this mix including some quality mashes from various other producers. Tommy Trash provides a diverse selection of the best recent progressive and electro house tracks including some not so well known tracks compiling an excellent tracklist of 14 songs in this hour of EDM mayhem.
