Trance | Markus Schulz feat. Seri – Love Rain Down (Myon & Shane 54 Summer Of Love Remix)

Posted by on September 23, 2012

Ever since starting their Summer Of Love remix series back in 2010, Myon & Shane have spiced up trance hits with their infallible summer remixes that remain hits year round. With his artist album “Scream” being recently released, and being crowned the number 1 DJ in America (Steve Aoki was second, seriously guys?), Markus Schulz has been on a tear recently and now prepared to roll out some stellar remixes for singles on the album. This Summer Of Love remix adds a more melodic side to the track, adding electro stabs and layering the vocals, while still keeping the upbeat tempo of the original. With their Summer Of Love remix of Velvetine – The Great Divide set to release tomorrow, these guys are making the most of the Summer Of Love remix series as Autumn is ushered in.

Albums | Markus Schulz – Scream (Album Review)

Posted by on September 17, 2012

On August 31, trance maestro Markus Schulz (just voted America’s Best DJ by DJ Times Magazine, incdentally) dropped his first album since 2010’s Do You Dream? The aptly-titled Scream is a long, multifarious journey through Markus’s talents, featuring a number of arena-friendly vocal singles in addition to techier tracks that harken back to his underground roots.

While the album is arguably a tour de force, I personally think that Markus is at his best when he’s deepest, darkest, and edgiest — and would therefore recommend taking an a la carte approach to this behemoth. My top picks? The deft and eerie “Triotonic,” the sublime “Universe is Mine,” the spacey “Soul Searching” and the riveting and nuanced “Digital Madness.” Anything involving Aruna and her beautiful voice is automatically okay in my book, so “Sing Me Back To Life” — which is genuinely transcendent at moments — is utterly worth the DL. The stirring and creative chord progression in “Absolution” is enough to counterbalance Mark Frisch’s rather incongruous vocals. And you should hopefully already have Loops & Tings, Markus and Ferry Corsten’s monster collaborative reboot of the 1993 classic of the same name. Finally, expect to hear a lot of “Love Rain Down” in the coming months — its catchy hook and melodic, bright synths make it a surefire winner, in addition to the fact that a remix from 4 Strings will be the next single off the album.

Trance | Markus Schulz & Ferry Corsten – Loops & Tings (Extended Mix)

Posted by on July 30, 2012

Earlier this year, longtime buddies Markus Schulz and Ferry Corsten joined forces on an epic rework of early-90’s anthem “Loops & Tings” by Jens. The finished product dropped on Beatport today, and if you’ve had the good fortune to see either of them perform live in the past few months (or were alternatively melting your face off at an illegal warehouse rave in the summer of 1993), you will recognize the hook immediately. Why? Because as Markus and Ferry have demonstrated, this is the kind of track that gets dropped at that pivotal moment when the crowd is primed, the kids have been put to bed, and by all accounts it’s time to get down to business. Their 21st century retrofit of this influential classic has set fire to festival tents, dance floors, and all of the weekly radio shows, so even if you’re not a devoted fan of the genre I’d highly recommend taking “Loops & Tings” for a quick spin.

DJ-Set, Preview | Escape From Wonderland Live Sets, Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso – Calling (R3hab & Swanky Tunes Remix) Live Preview

Posted by on October 31, 2011

“Calling” is one of the best songs of the year and an EDM anthem. Those types of songs are very difficult to remix because they are so good, but R3hab and Swanky Tunes change it almost entirely and make this absolute beast of a song with driving synth and a heavy bassline. These are the sets from Escape Wonderland over the weekend in San Bernadino, California. The lineup was ridiculous and the Size matters tour was on hand with some great sets. Tracklists after the jump.

DJ-Set, Events | Electric Zoo Recap & Sets

Posted by on September 13, 2011

The EDM beast that broke out of its cage at Electric Zoo had a similar effect as the Bronx Cobra, which had the entire city of New York captivated. Although this event wasn’t putting any lives at risk per se, the crowds, which were hardly distinguishable from animals, could hardly be tamed. Yet that’s to be expected when the likes of Afrojack, Tiesto, Guetta, Armin, Skrillex, Alesso, Hardwell, amongst countless other powerful DJ’s are on stages fortified by walls of massive lights.

As I mentioned in my last concert review, if the large crowds and expensive ticket prices intimidate you enough to avoid these festivals, you’ll be kicking yourself in a few years when it’s no longer acceptable or as fun for you to attend. Sure, it might cost you a few hundred bucks to catch all three days, but those memories will be priceless in the end, I promise.

Will call, line speeds, and security checks are always the first sign of a properly run event. Electric Zoo earned an “A” in this department as it took roughly 15 minutes to clear everything. Since I’m not a New York native, I opted out of the affiliated transportation options and took taxis, but it did look really well organized.

Since Electric Zoo featured numerous big name acts, I’m going to break this review down into a few sections: favorite performance, crowd favorite, best up and comer, and honorable mentions.

Check out the rest of the review as well as the sets and tracklists after the jump and there are a lot of them so enjoy.
