Pop, Videos | SoMo – “Kings & Queens (Throw It Up)

Posted by on July 25, 2012

Just under a year ago, I received a submission as I always receive submissions, through a mutual friend. That mutual friend told me, “Listen A, I’ve got this friend that’s extremely talented. You’ve got to listen to him.” Although I’ve heard that story many times before, I begrudgingly gave him my e-mail address and told him to have his friend send it over when he had a chance.

When I received the submission, I wasn’t all that impressed. I replied back, thanked him for taking the time to personally e-mail it me, and told him to keep up the good work. Three months go by, and a certain “Drake Medley” is going viral across the interwebs by a local Dallas artist. His name was Joseph Somo, the same artist I previously turned down just months before, had become a certified viral sensation.

SoMO has come a long ways from recording covers in his bedroom, taking it to a new level with his Jeremy Brookover directed video for “Throw It Up,” an infectious Friday night anthem for those looking to cut loose and throw caution to the wind. Even Mannie Fresh couldn’t help himself, joining SoMo in the video as they fist pump into the wee-hours of the morning.

If SoMo’s music can make the most cynical of bloggers (I’d be lucky if he even responded to my e-mails now) turn full fledged fan, I know SoMo can make a believer out of you as well. Download SoMo’s “Throw It Up single for free below and get ready his highly anticipated currently untitled debut mixtape coming soon! Throw it up!

As promised, Joseph Somo releases his highly anticipated single off his upcoming self-titled mixtape. With all my years in the blog game, I’m seldom impressed with most of the artists I come across. Jospeph Somo, however, is an artist that shows promise as tonight signals his official foray in the blogosphere. Just remember where you heard it first. Joseph Somo has officially arrived. Throw it up!

Hometown heroes, Joseph Somo and Cody Tarpley are back with a new video, covering The Weeknd’s “The Morning” off his palatial “House of Balloons” project that reached critical acclaim just a few months ago. Joseph and Cody are no strangers to critical acclaim themselves, as their “Drake Medley” cover is about to go Youtube platinum. Directed by Jeremy Brookover, the minimalist visuals allow Joseph’s vocals to be the protagonist in the story he makes all his own. If you like what you hear, catch Joseph performing live at Smitty’s Bar and Grill on April 6th in Denison, Tx. Show starts at 10:00. Get the details here.

Denton, Texas based talent, Joseph Somo, is back at it again with another exceptional video that covers stand out tracks from Drake’s sophomore effort “Take Care”. With the release of this new video, I’m convinced that Joseph SoMo and Cody Tarpley are the Drake and 40 of the cover game right now. Absolutely unstoppable. If SoMo keeps making covers like this, he won’t be able to go out of his own house without a flashmob of tween girls giving chase. Must be tough to be him.
