Electro-House | Martin Garrix – Animals
Posted by Middy on June 18, 2013
With his BFAM, Julian Jordan making his way to New York this Saturday, Martin Garrix provides us with his long awaited festival hit. The saga behind the song has helped its fame to this point. It was first IDed by Spinnin Records as Hardwell & GTA track, possibly to get the hype going. Then from there it was IDed as a Sidney Samson & Martin Garrix song, and though it is now just Martin Garrix’s single, one cannot rule out the possibility of Samson providing a little guidance since he has acted a mentor to him.
“Animals” embraces the minimal drops being championed by all ranges of producers in 2013, in part as a quick fix for staying relevant in the festival season, and another because there seems to be an insatiable appetite for it by the fans. With a more innovative style than most coming out today, “Animals” relies on a quick succession of pitched percussion, and a big room build to bring the track together. Look for this to be played often this summer and watch for it on Hardwell’s Revealed Recordings Compilation, releasing this Friday, June 21st.

Electro-House | Don Diablo feat. Alex Clare & Kelis – Give It All (Don Diablo & CID Remix)
Posted by Middy on June 12, 2013
The latest from Nicky Romero’s Protocol Recordings, Dutch producer Don Diablo tabs rising pop singers, Alex Clare and Kelis to lay down some great vocals alongside his bouncy, booming instrumental, with CID helping on the rework. Are the vocals a little cheesy, yes, but they are really catchy and will get stuck in your head. After a decade-long career plugging away in relative unknown of the worldwide audience, Don Diablo is making his presence not only with this track, but also his upcoming single on Axtone “Starlight (You Could Be Mine)”. There is a trap VIP mix of this track set for release some time soon on Sony.

Electro-House | Bass Kleph & Jimi Frew – Gum
Posted by Middy on June 8, 2013
Lazy Rich‘s Big Fish Recordings may fly under the radar at times with its releases, but it is consistently putting out well-produced, quality tracks. The same can be said to an extent for the chronically underrated label head himself. LA producer / DJ Bass Kleph has developed a reputation for his outstanding live performances where he does live edits of songs on the fly and he is growing an impressive discopgrahy to go along with that live DJ skill. He teams up with Sydney based producer Jimi Frew, a name to watch in the coming years, to bring us the powerful “Gum”.
“Gum” espouses both melodic and hard hitting electro elements with a driving, chunky low end, carefully orchestrated key play and big synth chords that make this suitable for a wide variety of tastes and a wide range of DJ sets. This is the type of record that could get a crowd going just as much as any top 40 Beatport record, but it would require a DJ to dig into the crates a little to find it — something many DJs this festival season are doing less and less.

Electro-House | Autoerotique & Felix Cartal – The Alarm (Charlie Darker Remix)
Posted by Middy on June 8, 2013
Canadian producer, Charlie Darker has been slowly rising in fame and stature since he was taken under the wing of Wolfgang Gartner last year with his “Atlantic / Pacific” EP signed to Kindergarten Records. He has been busy releasing a slew of remixes and originals since then, padding a growing discography, but few compare to what he conjured up here.
Charlie Darker keeps the “alarm” sound from the original, while adding a driving low end, to give the track the power and stamina that it lacked originally. This remix saw its fair share of plays during WMC and has been heavily supported by Hardwell. This remix has already seen its fair share of support, but look for that to increase this summer. The remix will also be featured on Hardwell’s Revealed Records 4 Compilation, set to release June 21st.
Electro-House | Dada Life – Boing Clash Boom (Remixes)
Posted by Middy on June 5, 2013
Dada Life‘s album “The Rules Of Dada” has already seen remixes from the likes of Tiesto and Dillon Francis, and now can add the Bingo Players, Major Lazer and Pierce Fulton to the list. While the two bigger names are somewhat expected and add their own unique character to the track, Pierce Fulton should be no surprise, since he recently was a performer at the Dada Life compound in San Francisco a few weeks ago. It is cool to see Pierce getting picked up for such high profile remixes, he deserves it.
The remixes are all quite different and each brings something unique from each other and from the original. Major Lazer go for a slower trapped out stylistic change, while Pierce adds his own chunky bass line in place of the traditional Dada Life electro drop, and the Bingo Players add a jarring acid fueled drop that takes a little while to get used to, but really works in the context of the song. If you are in NYC this weekend, Pierce is turning 21 on Saturday, so come to Lavo and get weird with him as Pierce has his first drink ever and potentially shotguns a beer with you after the show. Get tickets here.
