Electro-House, Review | Knife Party – Haunted House EP

Posted by on May 6, 2013

Knife Party - Haunted House EPA lot of people have been highly anticipating the next Knife Party release. Knife Party had stated that their “Haunted House Tour” was not related to an EP, but as you can see that’s not the case. I do like this EP, but it is further proof of how lazy the duo is when it comes to producing. My take on this EP is positive and negative, just to warn those of you who will take offense or disagreement to my opinions of each track.

“Power Glove” is a fun, hard hitting Electro-House track that I am sure is a blast in a live setting, but half the time I feel like I am listening to another VIP of “Internet Friends”. “LRAD” isn’t my style of House, I know it is a lot of fun in a big room with a good sound system, but I can’t get over how repetitious this style is. I like to be kept interested in a song, this just sounds like a track meant to please the tasteless festival attendees who are on countless drugs anyways. Speaking of an “Internet Friends VIP”, I am a bit disappointed that Knife Party included the actually VIP in this EP. I will not lie that I have been dying to get my hands on it, but seeing as “Power Glove” already sounds a bit like the original in the drop, I can’t help but think they could have picked a better original to include instead. Finally we get to the only track on the EP that actually sounds like a lot of effort and time was put into its creation. “EDM Death Machine” starts out with a kicking beat and light use in samples, it sounds like they learned from over sampling in “Internet Friends”. I love the progression Knife Party uses, my first listen was exciting, they managed to keep me on my toes the entire way through.

To those of you who are thinking “What are you talking about? This EP is amazing!” I do think it is good, amazing is a little far considering how less creative this EP feels as a whole. I would however recommend this to everyone. Knife Party has always made it their job to help you rage, even if they appear to be extremely lazy at times.

Albums, Electro | Andrew Bayer – If It Were You, We’d Never Leave (Album Review)

Andrew Bayer - If It Were You, We'd Never Leave

The world needs this album right now. Sometimes in this fast paced mile-a-minute world you just need to sit back, close your eyes and relax, and this is the album for that. The 25 year old American producer has developed a reputation for composing genre defying music that spans many styles and sounds. His 2011 album, “It’s Artificial” propelled his solo career forward with its wide variety of styles, from glitch-hop to silky smooth techno to eclectic electronica and progressive, creating a very cerebral experience.

Fast forward to 2013, Andrew Bayer has become a well established member of the Anjunabeats, producing with Above & Beyond on their album “Group Therapy”, being a part of Group Therapy stages everywhere from Tomorrowland to EDC Las Vegas and Electric Zoo, and joining Above & Beyond on tour all over the world. He has established himself with a growing single discography that includes the recently released “England” on Anjunabeats. “If It Were You, We’d Never Leave” is the progression of Andrew Bayer as an artist from his more days with the Signalrunners, making traditional trance music, to a now more ambient, orchestral, album oriented sound that has a timeless quality seen in very few full length electronic pieces today.

Progressive House | Cazzette – Weapon & Avicii – Three Million (Moiez Remixes)

With Cazzette hosting a remix contest for their single “Weapon”, Moiez has tossed his hat into the ring with a more tranced out version of the track, utilizing atmospheric synths, slow piano and excellent sampling of the vocals, reminiscent of his earlier works like “Kismet”. Wasting no time of this remix, Moiez flips the more melodic, experimental Eric Prydz influenced original for his own gritty electro house take on “Three Million”, a style we have not heard much of from the Canadian producer.

Dubstep | Pretty Lights – So Bright

Posted by on October 2, 2012

This may be the first time ever that Pretty Lights is making us buy a new single of his. This is a huge step in the artist’s career seeing as he has prided himself on the ability to release all of his music for free despite their availability on iTunes and Beatport. “So Bright” actually has little bit of Dark Soul style to it, mainly having to do with Pretty Lights’ way of infusing Dubstep with Soul and Hip-Hop. Not including his usual vocal sampling, the unnamed guy that comes in to drop a few verses is a nice touch. Pretty Lights is still a pioneer in EDM, it has been some time since he has released a big project. I wonder if this is the beginning to one?

UPDATE!!!!!: So Pretty Lights has stated this was not supposed to release yet so he has released it for free on his site. He has stuck with his original idea of everything free, true class.

Drum & Bass | Drum & Bass Fraturday

Posted by on July 14, 2012

The weekly Drum & Bass post has seemed to be either on Fridays or Saturdays, mainly dependent on how satisfied we are with the Drum & Bass selection or how busy our Fridays tend to be. After drafting the post last night, I knew I had some great tracks for this post but was still disappointed in how much it actually contained. I am still not entirely satisfied, but some of these tracks can’t wait any longer.

First track is an awesome Reggae Hop styled Drum & Bass track from Jinx. With a little bit of Dub vibes as most Reggae has, this track is insanely catchy and addicting. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I have already listened to it.

This next one is definitely the rare Drum & Bass funky party tune. Sampling some of the 90s babies favorite jams including beat sampling from Austin Power’s theme track and other Pop Culture references. A fun track to listen to or party to.

Although this is only a clip with no official release date, Mitis has been on roll lately. He has been dipping his toes in almost every electronic genre and taking names in the process. The Drum & Bass/Drumstep original of his is nuts, Mitis wastes no time in blowing your mind.

Dubstep | Exilica – Gone

Posted by on June 10, 2012

If I had to make a call based on this track, it would be that with the notice of Killagraham’s upcoming track ‘Arise,’ other artists have been inspired by his use of rap artist’s vocal sampling. That of course is just an assumption on my part. Excilica did an incredible job incorporating Tyga’s vocals on this track. The intro is lovely, Progressive Dubstep I can call this with a smile on my face. Though only 2:45 long, this track is an orgasm to the ears. A job well done by Exilica.
