Exclusive | The RhymeShack: Run, Forrest, Run (Video)

Posted by on April 13, 2012

“You know I’ll call before I come. I won’t just drop on over, out the blue ooh, and I hope that you do too.”

Enter the RyhmeShack, where Josiah Hendricks makes his passion his profession. While most lack the courage to live the life they dream, Josiah has made his dreams a reality, rapping about his journey to the top in his recent “Run Forest Run.” Straying from over saturated motifs, Josiah brings a refreshing message to a hip-hop culture obsessed with mass consumption and wealth acquisition. Waiting tables by day and moonlighting as a rapper at night, Josiah will soon become a household name under the tutelage of MicControl’s Chris Taylor. As Josiah continues to take the blog world by storm, be sure to connect with him via his social networking sites below. The mp3 will be released when the video hits 5,000 views!

Albums | Clinton Sparks Readies Upcoming “My Awesome Mixtape 2”

Posted by on February 9, 2012

Coming off a recent Grammy nomination for his work on Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way”, multi-platinium producer Clinton Sparks has been hard at work preparing for the release of his highly anticipated “My Awesome Mixtape 2”. Rumored to be narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, the project will be heavily dance inspired (think Skrillex meets Jim Jones or Sidney Samson meets Rick Ross) and is slated for a Valentine’s day release. Talk about bawse. Now I know what I’m getting my ladyfriend for Valentine’s day. To hold us over until then, Get Familiar was kind enough to drop off a few tracks for our listening pleasure that I’ve included below. If these tracks are any indicator of what’s to come, 2012 could be Clinton Sparks’s break out year as an artist. Get familiar with Clinton’s movement by connecting with him on Facebook and Twitter. As a bonus, hit read on to check out Clinton’s recent video for “No Swag” featuring Jacob Kasher and Phil Shaouy.

Hip-Hop | Bei Maejor ft. Waka Flocka Flame: Lights Down Low

Posted by on February 8, 2012

Because of this song this is the order of events that are going to happen: I am going to listen to Fell in Love on the Dancefloor by Bei (aka right below this) while I get ready and then I am going to find some G who drives a dope blacked out Range Rover. We are then going to roll down the windows, light up some Marlboro Reds (not condoning smoking at any other time, just in super betchy times) and then roll up to some dope party. I am then going to act really apathetic, but get super low and dance on my own in the middle of the dancefloor/basement. I am going to find the best dancer in there then challenge him because I am going to feel as badass as I can, which is not that badass, I’m blonde and stickly so…whatever. Bei is jumping from “Fell in Love” to teaming up with Waka Flocka Flame. Like what? I mean, I’m down, but…again, whatever. He’s versatile to say the least and super sexual apparently. Who has the keys to a Range? Let’s go!

Videos | Joseph SoMo & Cody Tarpley- Work Out (Cover)

Posted by on February 5, 2012

Sweet baby Jesus. Somebody call Jimmy Iovine and get this young man a deal. Finding talent in your own backyard. I love it. Hailing from Denton, Texas, Joseph SoMo has steadily been dropping cover videos as of late as he continues to create a respectable buzz for himself. Not only does he crush his vocals, he adds a quick sixteen at the end. For more information about this rising artist, find him on Facebook here. Sit tight, you’ll be seeing much more of him in the coming weeks. Shout out to Ben for the tip.

I think this just about sums up “Smoking That LOUD” [quote is from their facebook page bio]: “Love to get high all day, drink all day and have incredible sex which is my inspiration for great music.”

Videos | Mike Posner ft. Blackbear – Stay Schemin’ (Cover)

Posted by on January 15, 2012

This is what I’m talking about. I’m not even a Mike Posner fan. This is pure genius. Even though we love to pick on various artists in the industry, there’s a reason why they’re signed and others are not. This is why Mike Posner is signed to a major label. He’s pure talent, he’s got a great beard, and he’s got the vocal range of a high school girl who uploads her covers to Youtube. He’s really the triple threat-and shows it by covering Rick Ross’s “Stay Schemin” off his recent “Rich Forever” mixtape featuring Drake and French Montana. As a bonus, I’ve included the original track as well as the cover mp3.

Videos | Trevor Wesley – The Most Wonderful Time

Posted by on December 16, 2011

I usually hate what I get in my inbox. Just terrible music submission after terrible music submission. People thinking I owe them something, people requesting I send them beats, people asking me if I can bring the rice out. You name it, it’s been asked. Enter, Trevor Wesley. Not penetrate him, but you get the idea. This guy can sing. Period. I dig this guy’s swag too. It’s off the charts, no homo. He’s got the bowtie going with the fresh tweed blazer. Talk about sartorialist.

Putting my professional music blogger cap on, the video isn’t what it seems on its face. Sure, it’s a fun video of Trevor walking around interacting with various characters including but not limited to Jesus, but it also raises questions about consumerism, the reason for the season, and conspicuous consumption. Many themes in this video, many themes. That’s what separates the bloggers from the blogstars. As a bonus, I’ve included the mp3 for your listening pleasure. Follow Mr. Wesley on Twitter and tell him the good folks at FreshNewTracks sent you. Cue W8 rant about consumerism in 5..4..3..
