There are not many progressive house tracks that come out these days that are good enough to get me to move from where ever I am, usually your mother’s house, into my bed (where I write all my posts) to write a post about it. This track however is. Moiez has been a regular here for a while now so I’m sure most of you are aware of the type of stuff we are used to hearing from him. When I first heard “City On A Hill” I was blown away at how good it is. Everything from the vocals to the slow key play to the atmospheric drop is great. This is without a doubt Moiez’s best work and I hope he can manage to hold the quality of his future releases to the same level.

Moiez has been quiet lately, notably since we premiered his remix of “Reload“, but he is back to the remix front with his take on one of Justin Timberlake’s recent tracks from the “20/20 Experience Pt. 1”. Well, technically this is a cover of that track by Anoop Desai, and then Moiez remixed it, so remix squared. The Vancouver native takes the strengths of the original / cover and adds a soothing, trancey melody, much like some of his older works like “Flight”, which is now being repackaged into a “3LAU collab” and rereleased with Justin’s name on it.

Usually when I sift through my inbox, it is generic press emails, decent to pretty bad music or a ridiculous email from The Chainsmokers (heart hands), and after a while I just get audio fatigue trying to manage it. However, when I come across something like this, like when I first heard Vicetone, or Stephen Swartz or Moiez, I knew I there was real talent. Dutchman Pablo Rindt or Maddix has been in the producing game now for a few years, mainly doing DJ-ready bootlegs and the occasional remix, but to be honest nothing that noteworthy, until now.
However, coming from that country where electronic music talent is as common as their cloudy days (hence why they flee to the French Riveria in the summer), it is not surprising that he would be able to hone his craft over the past year, culminating in this outstanding original. The track borders along the lines of melodic and electro, blending them together at once, with high-octane breaks and soothing interludes. What makes this even better is that it is free and there is more coming from Maddix. The free download includes the more DJ-friendly original mix. Do yourself the favor and grab it now.

Elevating our ears to another height of musical emotion, Joshua Bull or Stars Above, completely captures, the essence of the original creation from Moiez, all whilst still giving it his own flair and unique edit. Moiez’s Over You, with Dellara on vocals, a forthright hit on its own is drawn into the trance arena, with progressive synth stabs and chord progressions building to one monumental statement of a drop. It has been a little while since I have posted something from the Vancouver native, Moiez, but he has had a great 2013 making his way to the MainStage at Spring Awakening in Chicago earlier this summer, alongside names like the Bingo Players, Dirty South, Nero and Moby. Lana Del Rey has become the Adele of dance music remixes and it leads to some pretty egregious over-remixing, but do give this one a shot with its quick moving key play and a crisp bass line. In the future look for more remixes coming soon from Moiez and an official remix package for “Young and Beautiful” that includes one from Kaskade.
