Albums | Oliver Nelson Returns To Perfect Havoc Alongside Irish Singer, Lilla Vargen

Posted by on June 3, 2022

Multi-million streaming Swedish producer Oliver Nelson returns in emphatic fashion with new single ‘Long Summer Nights’ released on 27th May in joint partnership on Perfect Havoc – thechart-topping label that discovered and broke Joel Corry – and acclaimed artist management company, music publisher, and record label, Prolifica. In collaboration with Nelson on this latest release is the incredibly talented Irish singer/songwriter, Lilla Vargen, together creatingthe perfect soundtrack towarm, summer days and chromatic late-evening sunsets.

Instantly emotive, ‘Long Summer Nights’ kicks straight into Vargen’s gripping vocal topline whilst gliding through a passionate progression of piano keys and delicate rhythm before upping the energy with an ensemble of electro-tinged synths and powerful ‘80s inspired cinematic drum work. Whether on a crowded dancefloor or cruising into the horizon with the top down, this latest addition to the Perfect Havoc catalogue will strike a chord and linger in the memory all summer long.

Oliver Nelson first burst onto the scene with a series of high-profile nu disco remixes before Polydor snapped up his debut single ‘Found Your Love’ in 2016. Now with over 400 million global streams to his name, Nelson is the brains behind high profile remixes for NEIKED, Ella Henderson, Kesha, Joel Corry and many more. His infectious bootleg of The Wombats ‘Greek Tragedy’ unexpectedly went viral on TikTok in 2021, featuring in over 430,000 videos and culminating in an official release on 14th Floor Music.

Nelson is a master in the studio, evident in collaborations with Kygo on ‘Riding Shotgun’ (Sony) and on big house productions on the label that discovered him, Perfect Havoc, including standouts, ‘Is It Real?’ and ‘Something ‘Bout The Music’. Ever pushing the envelope, last year Nelson launched electro-pop group Moodshift, alongside Grammy-winner, Lucas Nord, and vocalist, flyckt, and remains in demand as a remixer too with a huge official rework for Donna Summer turning heads last June.

Having accumulated 50 million streams and completed a huge arena tour as guest to Dermot Kennedy, Lilla Vargen is one of Ireland’s fastest rising new talents. She has regularly collaborated with the MyRiot production duo whose credits include London Grammar and Halsey. Having so far released fewer than a dozen tracks, Lilla has already achieved seven Top 15 New Music Friday features with Spotify plus numerous key playlists at Apple Music. Radio is rapidly gaining traction too, with Radio 1 airplay from Phil Taggart, Huw Stephens and Best New Pop alongside support from Radio X and Ireland’s RTÉ 1 and 2.

Perfect Havoc – nominated for Best Independent Record Label at the 2022 Music Week Awards – is one of the most successful indie dance labels of recent years. Its trademark commercial dance with a smattering of the more club-focused sounds has generated the label over 3 billion streams and given rise to six UK Top 20 singles including the No.1 single ‘Head & Heart’ by four-time Brit Award nominated producer, Joel Corry & MNEK.

Also knowing more than a thing or two about hit singles is the partnering label on this release. Prolifica was formed in 2004 as both the management and dance label behind artists such as Robert Miles, Spiller, Planet Funk and Dimitri from Paris. It’s since transitioned into a multi-artist award winning company behind such established global arena artists as Two Door Cinema Club.

London Grammar - Wasting My Young Years (David Bulla Bootleg)

Twenty-one year old German producer, David Bulla, has been making a name for himself over the past few months with exceptionally well done bootlegs, remixes and originals. After a quick 20 days since his last remix, he is back with another one, this time of London Grammar’s “Wasting My Young Years”. He keeps some of the original piano and guitar but turns the rest of the track progressive. The bassline during the drop is especially good.

The Naked And Famous - No Way (Live City Remix)

The most livest of cities are back again with another super melodic remix, following up their previous efforts for MS MR, London Grammar & the Disco Fries in the past month or so. The Naked & Famous are one of those bands who have benefited greatly from dance music remixes, most notably Tiesto & Hardwell’s remix of “Young Blood” back in 2012. They have become stars in their own right, and Live City decides to dig in the Naked & Famous back catalog, pulling out “No Way” and adding a soothing progressive spin on the tune that gives it new life. It is another free download from the duo, so don’t hesitate to get it now.

In the ancient Sanskrit language the word Bodhi means awakened, which happens to be a perfect description for what the duo of the same name has done to this London Grammar tune. In it’s original form ‘Hey Now’ was a lax ambient joint with etherial vocals over a droning back drop, but Bodhi snapped and flipped it into a gorgeous dance floor banger with deep bass grooves and a house swing. If you’re patient and listen as the track lulls midway, it will culminate and liberate all inhibitions you may have had about dancing alone in your room.

YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT IT IS.

All the music that I listened to throughout the last 12 months enough to make me sick but somehow didn’t. The fields of music brought a bountiful yield in 2013 which allowed listeners like me to tune into more genres and artists than I could ever imagine. In order to cover all my necessary bases, I’ve drafted quite a comprehensive list (or two) missing prety much only anything Jennifer Lawrence related although if all the things she said this year were songs then they would 100% have made it on my list as well.

So, let the countdown, BEGIN!

MS MR - Ash Tree Lane (Live City Remix)Generally, Live City bring the heat with relentless aggressive electro stompers that attempt to blow you out of your chair, but it always nice for artists and fans to get a change of pace in a producer’s discography. Like their recent remix for London Grammar “Strong“, Live City add an easy going progressive melody that carries through the indie original. MS MR have not been over remixed, so this will be a breath of fresh air in your playlists and best of all it is FREE.

London Grammar - Strong (Live City Remix)

Coming off of their EP on The Disco Fries’ label “Lift Off Recordings”, NYC duo Live City return to the hallmark in free downloads, with a remix of London Grammar’s “Strong”. Ethan & Jake add a nice progressive spin on the track with fluttering key play over a subtle bed of electro growls, that take full advantage of London Grammar’s soaring vocals. London Grammar have really exploded this year with their debut EP, “Metal & Dust” in February, and then the full length album in September that has left fans speechless and given producers plenty of material to remix.
