Indie, Pop | Jon Bellion – Dead Man Walking

If you’re looking for originality, look no further than Jon Bellion. Following up his previous releases of “Paper Planes” and “LIFE“, the Long Island native has some fun with his newest release, reciting a plot similar to an episode of “My Sisters Hot Friend”. Jon’s organic style is what really stuck out to me in this indie-acoustic jam, written, produced, and performed entirely by Jon himself. Although varying from his two previous releases, Jon once again has shown that necessary x-factor in each video thus far, creating a piece of art like nothing we’re accustomed to seeing. The upcoming project Translations Through Speakers is still slated for a release later this winter.

Hearing Jon Bellion’s illustrious creations in itself is an honor.  Having a behind the scenes look at his creative process is just icing on the cake.  Watching Jon add each intricate layer to the production is what amazes me most.  When you hear his music you may not realize all of the fine details and elements that make up the final product, but seeing “the making of” really draws a new appreciation for his music.  Ping back to the initial post on the LIFE music video and stay up for details on his all original project, Translations Through Speakers, dropping before years end.

Alternative, Indie, Pop | Jon Bellion – LIFE [Music Video]

Since Visionary’s Jon Bellion released his first single, “Paper Plane“, a few weeks back, I’ve been trying to classify and compare his music.  A fluid blend of indie, pop, r&b, alternative, and pure innovation?  Death Cab for Cutie meets John Legend meets Kanye?  After pulling my thoughts in opposing directions I’ve come to the conclusion there is no classification and there is no comparison.  Jon Bellion is authentic, unique, sound, and extremely talented.  Captivating his audience with a distinguished voice, the kid also produces and composes he majority of his own music.

Bewildered by the simple things in LIFE, Bellion shares a story about a young man trying to figure out what he needs to progress and survive.  Although I was a bit skeptic when I didn’t see GRVTY behind the camera on this one, director Jeremy Peel proves his skill and delineates this song perfectly.  JB’s all original project, Translations Through Speakers will be dropping before years end.

Progressive House | Justin Bieber – Boyfriend (Dada Life Remix)

Posted by on May 25, 2012

Two Justin Beiber posts in 24 hours? Oh Hell Yea. However, you really cannot tell that Justin Beiber is the one on the vocals. Maybe if you are a true Belieber you will pick up on the rhythm of his voice, but otherwise Dada Life distorted the voice so much that is could be one of them singing. Dada Life has taken a lot of flack for this, but they asked their fans what was the artist they were least likely to remix and the Biebs was the response and man did they remix the Biebs. The diehard fans will hold their nose at this track, but they are missing out on some stellar music. The new instrumental is not as heavy as we are accustomed to hearing from Dada Life, but it is perfect for the track. The melody provided by Dada Life is top of the line with uplifting synth chords, quick claps and a thumping bass line, taking this track from pop single to a legitimate, peak time club banger.

Hip-Hop | Jazz Cartier- Jet Plane

Posted by on February 27, 2012

Balancing a budding rap career and school is no easy task. Just ask the enigmatic Jazz Cartier, a Toronto native who is an amalgam of boarding school life and nostalgic Texas rap culture made popular by the late DJ Screw.

Building on his freshman project, “Losing Elizabeth”, Jazz comes off a brief hiatus to drop what presumably serves as a teaser for his upcoming “Marauding in Paradise” mixtape. Sampling Angus and Julia Stone’s “Big Jet Plane”, the track features production from Michael Lantz and details the rise and fall of a romantic relationship. He raps contemplatively, “The only girl that wants to study while her friends go and party/a plain jane think about you when it rains/I take it with a grain/and meet you on the plane.” Omitting a third and final verse, Jazz leaves the listener in suspense craving a resolution to the romantic encounter. It seems we’ll have to wait until “Marauding In Paradise” to find out how the story ends. In the mean time, be sure to follow Jazz on Twitter here. Life’s a wheel of fortune, and Jazz Cartier plans to spin it.
