Bass, Chill, Trap | Royal – Royal’s Theme

royal

Talk about a game changer. Royal has been on a grind lately, and with his newest release, “Royals Theme,” it doesn’t seem like he’ll be stopping anytime soon. As a teaser of his upcoming EP, the dude Royal just dropped this upbeat, fresh, and smooth future tune to get ya’ll psyched up, and I think he delivered pretty strong. Stay on the lookout for the full tracklist – I don’t think “disappointment” is a word this guy even knows.

Progressive House | Hellberg – Saviors

Posted by on August 14, 2014

Hellberg_saviorsMonstercat has always excelled at catching the little guy before they blow. Just a few like Project 46, Vicetone & Pegboard Nerds come to mind of the top of my head. Swedish producer Hellberg has slowly built his career over the past few years with some very solid remixes and originals, some of those on Monstercat and it seems like it is all finally coming together now. “Saviors” is his latest big, melodic original effort that you should cop right away since it is a free download.

Justin Jay - Bounce and Break

Dirtybird Records man Justin Jay takes a break from his official releases to release the middle school dance inspired tune “Bounce and Break”. A rare freebee from Justin Jay, he brings together a groovy, deep, g house tune with a focus strictly on the beats. Download the tune below and make sure to keep an eye on this guy with plenty more Dirtybird action to come.

Oliver Heldens is the darling of the booking world. Everyone loves the guy, and it’s easy to see why. I do, however, have a little problem with Koala. It’s predictable. It’s repetitive. Dare I say it’s a little too smilier to a certain future house contemporary? I won’t go that far. The bottom line is that it’s always tough to follow up a hit with another hit. That’s what differentiates a star from a one hit wonder. To Oliver’s credit, expectations are always high after a hit, and it’s hard to match the previous excitement. Do I think Oliver’s a one hit wonder? No. I just think this new offering should have been stronger.

Progressive House | Oliver Heldens – Gecko (Elephante Remix)

Oliver Heldens - Gecko (Elephante Remix)

“Gecko” by Oliver Heldens was a massive hit and Elephante, the guy whose remixes are all hits as well decided to put his own spin on it. The memorable riff from the original remains, but electro sounds and big chords have been added, resulting in a much more high energy track.

3LAU FEAT. BRIGHT LIGHTS – HOW YOU LOVE ME (PRINCE FOX REMIX)

You know, as a guy who has been big into starch lately, I can confidently say that Prince Fox’s remix of “How You Love Me” stands out among them all. Instead of going the typical progressive house route in remixing this track, he put his own bassy spin on it. This came out forever ago, five days to be exact, so you may have already heard it. Nonetheless, it is just too good not to post so if you haven’t yet, be sure to give this a listen.

Two Fridays ago in New York it monsooned. Not your average everyday, downpour with the occasional flash of lightning, but a serious cloth soaking, 100% humidity state of affairs that created deceptive “puddles” that would envelop your entire lower leg up to your knee. Despite this and a 4 hour flight delay because of it, The Bixel Boys got to Webster Hall to play alongside the big man himself (he is actually a rather tall and imposing figure), Tchami.

So me hoarse from yelling over the music and a busted voice from a week of tough allergies and a cold, managed to get out some ridiculous questions to the guys and they gave me some great answers with Tchami “Untrue” blaring in the background.
