New Zealand producer FFFRRANNNO released this record a month ago, and I almost want to apologize for not supporting this remix earlier, and not wishing him a happy birthday then. The Kiwi remixed The 1975’s track “Pressure” by chopping up the vocals and layering  them over a bumping beat lead by an epic electric guitar.  Moral of the story, if you’re trying to feel some kind of way and get lost in the music, this is the tune for you. This is a must listen!

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes, Rap | Vic Mensa – Innanetape (Mixtape)

Posted by on October 12, 2013

vic mensa - innanetape

Now that the blogosphere has had time to recover from the massive shockwave that hit it upon the release of #INNANETAPE, I figured it was time to give my spin on things.

The tape starts with a sound reminiscent of Kids These Days, a live drum drum pattern and the screech of an electric guitar. However, the former KTD frontman does not play it safe by any means and is constantly pushing sound boundaries throughout the tape. Mensa calls on board fellow Chi-town representatives, Rockie Fresh, Chance the Rapper, and BJ The Chicago Kid to add some Midwest flare to the tape, as well as TDE conglomerate, Ab-Soul.

From top to bottom this project is one of my favorites of the year so far. Check out the stand-out tracks, “Orange Soda”, “Hollywood, LA”, “Holy Holy”, and “YNSP”, but be sure to give the full tape a listen!

Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Preview | Emperor – Structures

Posted by on July 11, 2013

After his epic hard hitting remix of Shrine’s “Kursk”, Emperor debuts a new top of the food chain single through Inspected. I am getting a huge Culprate vibe from this track, I don’t know if he helped out Emperor or if he was inspiration, but I am really feeling this. The bassline sounds like a tweaked electric guitar taken through lower octaves that they usually are unable to touch, helping bring in the occasional whale call that puts a smirk on my face. No word yet on a release date.

Drum & Bass | KillSonik – Leviathan

KillSonik - LeviathanKillSonik killing it again. This epic Drum & Bass “Leviathan” is one of the best tunes I have heard from the duo, even during their days as Chasing Shadows. The electric guitar on this track has the rocker in me air strumming like my life depends on it. It is one of the coolest instruments, in my opinion, that anyone could include in a song. Classic Drum & Bass lovers may not be as into this, but if you love terrifying bass, this original is for you.

Electronic | Penthouse Penthouse – When It’s Hot feat. Djemba Djemba & Mr. Carmack

Posted by on May 30, 2013

Penthouse Penthouse (the band so good they named it twice) dropped a preview of this juicy beat a few weeks ago and I’ve been biting my nails since because I had a feeling it was just too delicious of a sound to only last 1:31 – and bam, was I right! I love all three of the artists at work here; their tracks give me this feeling of being at an A-list infinity pool party surrounded by sexy socialites, top-shelf liquor and finely trimmed hedges. And even if I’m in my friend’s backyard with a kiddie pool, a frisbee and some PBR, I know this jam brings all the swag I need.

Anyway, with the magic touch from Djemba Djemba (doubles again?!) and Mr. Carmack, I’d describe it as Justin Timberlake-esque but with more street cred and less buttons fastened on his shirt. Now sit back and prepare to be swept off your feet because this is only the beginning of your new summer romance.
