Albums, Contests, Featured, Trance | Andain – You Once Told Me Signed Album Giveaway

Posted by on September 24, 2012

11 years in the making, after breaking up for a time and countless delays, Andain’s first artist album “You Once Told Me” has finally been released. Andain, comprised of Josh Gabriel from Gabriel & Dresden fame and Mavie Marcos have put out singles and demos here and there over the past decade, but finally after really focusing on getting the album done, Andain “You Once Told Me”, the full product has finally come to fruition. In the past 2 years with the release of “Promises” and “Turn Up The Sound” and its remixes, indications pointed towards the possibility of a finished album, but like Chicago Cubs fans or people waiting for “Detox”, they knew not get their hopes up too high.

However, all of that painful waiting is over and we have “You Once Told Me”. The album combines uplifting trance tracks with more chilled out acoustic tracks, with a few more upbeat tracks sprinkled in. This is not your 136bpm trance that pounds you into submission, nor is it your current brand of trance being headed by Anjunabeats that fuses progressive house and trance. This is its own sound, with substantial variation from track to track exemplified in songs like “Promises” that slows down the tempo with a varying bass line and growling undertones, “You Once Told Me” & “Ave Maria”, which pick up the pace and provides more upbeat elements of the album and “Taken Away” with its easygoing melody of guitar, flute and bells that lends to the more soothing side of the album. Deviating from the Gabriel & Dresden sound, Andain shows the musical complexity and creativity vested in Josh Gabriel as he continues to blaze his own unique musical trail as a member of both Andain & Gabriel & Dresden

We are proud to be teaming up with Andain to do a giveaway of 4 signed copies of the album. To enter there are 2 simple steps:

Albums, Trance | Andain – You Once Told Me (Album Preview)

Posted by on August 22, 2012

11 years in the making, Andain the duo comprised of Josh Gabriel of Gabriel & Dresden and vocalist Mavie Marcos (guitarist David Penner left in 2006), are finally going to release their first album “You Once Told Me” after many singles, demo leaks and even breaking up for a year. Josh Gabriel & Mavie Marcos reformed Andain in 2007, but productivity in the form of releases never came until “Promises” was released in 2011 with the support of the larger DJ and dance music community. The release of “Turn Up The Sound” and the subsequent remixes showed that they were getting serious about releasing new material and the hope of an album was not just wishful thinking.

With the announcement of this 11 track album to be released September 24th, fans can celebrate and the final wave of anticipation can begin. The album mixes more club oriented tracks with acoustic ones to create a full body of work that shows the full spectrum of their sound. The album has a soothing quality to it with acoustic instruments and trancey synths creating a very airy, calming atmosphere. It also includes relatively upbeat moments during tracks like “Turn Up The Sound”, “Promises” and You Once Told Me”, but overall album is much more chilled out than Josh Gabriel’s work with Dave Dresden, showing the musical complexities of his persona. Stay tuned for more about this soon as there might just be a giveaway…

Drum & Bass, House, Trance | Andain – Turn Up The Sound (Remixes Part 2)

Andain – Turn Up The Sound is a song that lends itself to be remixed with a smooth melody that can be easily manipulated and beautiful vocals from Andain. American Trance legends, Gabriel & Dresden, put together a euphoric trance remix with a quick piercing bass line and an uplifting melody will make you want to just close your eyes and float away. For me I like it better than the Tydi remix, but it is very close. French producer / DJ Tristan Garner adds his flavor to the mix keeping the vocals, while adding a hard chopped electro drop that will satisfy those looking for something heavier. Zetandel gives us a very smooth, relaxed remix hence the “Chillout Remix” with reverbed key play and a subtle bass line. Stratus goes all the way with a drumstep remix of the track with some crunchy synths layers with pitched synths.
