Albums | “Rikiki” is a colorful Afro-fusion ode to the motherland of Africa by Shopé

Posted by on December 6, 2020

Toronto, Canada based up-and-coming artist Shopé dropped his music video for his single, “Rikiki” recently and it’s a vibe! The son of Nigerian parents, Shopé was born and raised in Lagos till age eleven when he and his family emigrated to Canada to seek out a fresh start and new opportunities, leaving the comfort of their home, friends, family and culture behind. As is the story of many immigrants in the West, his family were often met with hardship and unwelcoming arms when trying to assimilate to their new surroundings. It was only after facing some harsh truths that Shopé’s perspective gradually began to shift, it took him seeing and experiencing the disparity in treatment between white people and people of color first hand for him to rethink his position.  It was a sobering realization to find that the land he now proudly called his home was the same land which bullied him into gradually denouncing his heritage and turning his back on his culture, the very same culture that once brought him so much joy and comfort. Watch the video for “Rikiki” above now!

Electronic | No Limits – Timeless Into The Night

No Limits - Timeless Into The Night

There are few things as impressive as somebody driving an entry-level BMW, but No Limits certainly is. I even went as far as comparing them to Algeria, Africa’s largest country when I posted their prior release, “Another World”, a couple weeks ago. “Timeless Into The Night”, their follow up to that is vaguely similar in style, but has a more chilled out vibe to it. Amazing work done by the boys once again on this one.

No Limits - Another World

As I’ve touched upon before, usually once a day but sometimes twice, No Limits, an electronic duo from Akron, Ohio have an immense amount of talent. What is perhaps the most impressive about these guys is their versatility. They don’t stick to just one genre and each one they go to they excel in. Their latest original, “Another World”, is a mid-tempo electronic track. The vocals are surprisingly capable and are carried along by excellent drum work. There’s even some guitar throughout. No Limits are a couple of guys you should keep an eye on because, like the current economic and cultural issues facing Algeria, Africa’s largest country, there’s nothing but good on the horizon.

Electro-House | Maddix – Send Us Some Bottles

Maddix - Send Us Some BottlesOne of the byproducts of his studio sessions during the past few months in South Africa, Pablo Rindt, or Maddix, has released another barnstormer of a tune, “Send Us Some Bottles”. He hits us again with riveting builds and powerful, grinding saws grounded by a thumping bass line. Another freebee from the young Dutchman, he continues to impress with his high-octane electro house tunes.

Hip-Hop | Jazz Cartier ft. Lykke Li- We’re Strangers, Until We Bleed

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard something from Jazz. Excuse the quality and lack of preview. It’s in wav. format. Jazz is all the way in Africa “polo-popping” at the moment and couldn’t have his engineer master it. Shout out to Chris on the assist.

There are artists in this world that are great rappers. There’s some artists that are great singers. Sheldon Scott is undeniably both. He is as versatile as he is talented. Sheldon told us earlier tonight, “This song is recorded for the FIFA World Cup this upcoming summer in Africa and was produced by T-Minus.” This song has killer production and is definitely a must download. Toronto stand up!
