Pop | Atlanta Rising TalentCi Majr drops debut EP

Posted by on April 19, 2021

In keeping with the bright and sparkling pop soundscapes and narrative lyricism Ci Majr introduced us to through the addictive “Summer Drug” and scintillating indie anthem, “Guillotine”, Ci Majr returns to further unpack the good, the bad and the ugly of romantic love in her dazzling and highly anticipated EP, Side Effects. As Ci Majr’s first full-length project of this kind and her third release of what has been a very strong year for the upcoming singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, the Side Effects EP is somewhat of a magnum opus for the Atlanta native, the journey to which has been a labor of love amongst friends, resulting in a specially curated, 5-track project several years in the making. Sticking to her well-loved approach of narrative and widely relatable songwriting, Ci Majr presents fans and listeners with a bittersweet project which ebbs and flows from track to track, immersing the listener in dramatic storylines, endearing characters and lovestruck misadventures. In Ci Majr’s characteristically warm and charming nature, Side Effects sees Ci Majr explore the thrilling highs and bitter lows of romantic love over shimmering pop beats and playful piano chords, delicately narrating the life cycle of a passionate but short-lived relationship, from its conception into its afterlife, each track with its own unique story and point of view. Tune into the EP above now and read a quote from Ci Majr below now!

“By late summer of 2020, I had about 20 demos and realized it was time for me to put out my first project. I talked to my friend Féz about it who helped me narrow it down to 5 and he agreed to produce the project. It’s really cool because Féz even described how there are some musical themes and instruments he used to tie it all together and I just love how it truly feels like a very well rounded body of pop songs. The visuals were also a very important part of creating the EP. I found Maggy Swain on Instagram and she just had this ethereal/dreamy style of photography that is just so eye-catching and gorgeous.” – Ci Majr

Pop | Indie-pop duo HARLOR shows us they’re all about those “Heart Games”

Posted by on April 9, 2021

Emerging indie/folk duo HARLOR have dropped their new single “Heart Games”. The vulnerable single shares the oh-so-relatable tale of falling for someone you know it’s never going to work with. The track is ripe with sweet, sentimental lyrics carried by the stunning vocals of Nick Gerard, who tells us that the track is about real life experiences:

The title ‘Heart Games’ is a parallel to someone playing mind games, but in this instance you know what’s going on. They’re playing with your heart, not your head. The record ebbs and flows to different places as you progress through the song. I think that’s the coolest part of this record, the growth it experiences in just a few minutes.”

Producer Max Anthony brings to life the moods of “Heart Games” with his uber-polished, yet perfectly complex production style. Marrying guitar driven instrumentals and atmospheric vocal production, “Heart Games” builds from a softer, folk-driven track, into a hard-hitting indie anthem that’s a must listen for all lovers of the genre.

Pop | Abao And Nanquaq Drop Compilation Album N1, Showcasing Taiwan’s Brightest Indigenous Artists

Posted by on April 3, 2021

An incredibly talented and dedicated artist, Abao certainly is one of the brightest talents hailing out of Taiwan. An indigenous artist of Paiwan descent, she is pioneering her own brand of neo-soul and R&B, managing to win the Best Album and Best Song categories at the Golden Melody Awards with her 2019 album “kinakaian,” an award which marks the Chinese-Speaking world’s highest music honor.

Now, alongside her own organization Nanquaq, she is showcasing the blossoming indigenous artists of Taiwan with N1, a diverse and exciting compilation album featuring 7 emerging talents of indigenous descent: Natsuko, Arase, Dremedreman, Stingie, Drangadrang, Makav, and Kivi. Hailing from four of Taiwan’s 16 recognized indigenous ethnic groups: Paiwan, Bunnan, Amis, and Rukai, these artists come together on N1 to pay homage to their respective indigenous heritage, yet are able to craft gems in every modern genre imaginable, from indie to hip-hop and jazz to dance music.

N1 was created with the help of experienced indie/electronica producer Huang Shao-yong of Dark Paradise Records, who – alongside Abao – helped the young artists bring their vision to life without any creative restrictions, and guided them along the entire process of recording, arranging and finishing the album. This is a massive step forward for indigenous music in Taiwan, that we can’t wait to hear more of in the future.
