Posted by on January 28, 2012

Swiss Dj and producer Maurizio Colella aka EDX has finally released his much anticipated premier artist album “On The Edge”. This album is the culmination of the EDX’s career thus far, which began as a young Swiss Dj handing out mixtapes in the late 90s that would soon go global and help propel the now world famous Dj to widespread fame and success. With a famous brand “No Xcuses” and radio show to his name, EDX has toured the world playing clubs from Los Angeles to Soeul to Melbournne to Paris. He just finished his summer residency at the world’s number one club “Space” in Ibiza and is getting ready for his No Xcuses Tour, which will take him all over the world and send him tearing through the summer festival season with this album as his primary weapon. Below is the soundcloud teaser that was posted a while back by EDX and after the jump a full review of the album and a few selections of the album to preview.

“On The Edge” is an 14 song album that is able to bring together everything that encapsulates EDX’s sound ranging from deep house and more techy arrangements to more upbeat energetic progressive pieces. Vocals are a paramount piece of this album with vocals provided by singers such as Nadia Ali, Hadley, Sarah McLeod, John Williams and more. He keeps to his roots of more deep and mellow house, but you can absolutely hear the influence of the rise of uplifting progressive house on this album. One such song is “This Is Your Life” with vocals from Nadia Ali and huge big room synths that is bound to make this song one the first massive hits off of this album. Other songs such as “D.A.N.C.E.”, which was already released as a single, “Give It Up For Love” and “Szelpo” have the uplifting progressive sound with beautiful synth melodies that are perfect for the live venue to create a euphoric atmosphere. “Give It Up For Love” is a song that will be perfect for summer with an easy guitar melody underneath the simple yet addictive vocals and breakdown filled with heavy bass and driving synth.

“2 Hearts 1 Mind” and “Angry Hearts” are perfect examples of the house sound that EDX has become known for with a deep more subtle sound with sensitive piano melodies and subdued bass lines with quality vocals over top. “Warped Minds” is a very interesting song because of the various vocal samples used, that bring a different dimension to the song with a more thoughtful array of samples with the incredible, smooth instrumental underneath. “Love Express” is another song that may be a hit off of this album and see many remixes with a thumping bass and a clap that simply makes the bass line as well as funky synth and piano melody that is sure to have you moving with a great vocals provided Seamus Haji. Many of you are probably familiar with EDX through a few songs of his, including songs on the album such as “Embrace”, “Angry Heart”, “No Excuses” and “Falling Out Of Love”, of which Tommy Trash made a superb remix, as well as many of his remixes of singles and collaborations with some of the biggest Djs in the world including Kaskade, Sebastian Ingrosso, Sander van Doorn and more. This album gives a great look at what EDX has done and what he is going to do in the future. Be sure to check him out this spring and summer as he will be touring constantly ahead of this album and if he is in a city near you, get to the show.
