Moonrise Festival

Baltimore’s bass heavy Starscape Festival has been known for showcasing up and coming talent, mixed with some established names in the bass heavier end of dance music — all at a great price. However, the creators of Starscape decided that after 14 years it needed a makeover to bring it up to speed with the bigger is better festival culture here in America. The festival has expanded from its traditional one day format to 2 days, 12 hours each day at the Sun Park in downtown Baltimore.

This expansion and rebranding has brought new names and sounds to the lineup, from trance to hip hop, to the more traditional sounds of electro and dubstep. Big names like Eric Prydz, Datsik, Pretty Lights, Doctor P, Paul van Dyk, Porter Robinson, Nero, Flux Pavilion, Krewella and more will be gracing the stages in Baltimore that early summer weekend. So get your tickets now and get ready for the beginning of the festival season with an under the radar festival worthy of your consideration. Click past the jump to see the full lineup poster. Events | Recap: Starscape Festival 2012

The school bus was hot and crowded. After a brief detour through unsavory bits of Baltimore that wove us through abandoned warehouses and stacks of shabby apartments, we shuddered to a halt at a nondescript patch of weeds in what appeared to be somebody’s driveway. “We’re here,” announced the bus driver. I peered out of the dingy window and saw a thin line of girls in glitter and spirit hoods picking their way forward. Yes. The early signs of a music festival are unmistakable. We had arrived.

From the back of the bus: “LET’s GOOOOO!!!!!” Someone had a DC flag draped out of the window. A heady, recognizable Flux Pavilion riff thundered from a nearby iPhone. I wiped the sweat from my arms and took a swig from a sticky handle of Smirnoff. My phone registered that Middy was inside, on stage, watching The M Machine roil the crowd. I had to get in there as quickly as possible.

Off the bus and onto the road. Phone check: 6:02 pm. Starscape 2012 would continue unabated for the next 12 hours. It would take no prisoners.

EDC NY went out with a bang and a bass drop on Sunday night, leaving us to stagger numbly out of MetLife, onto public transit, and back into the bleak, bleak world beyond the gates. Exiting a festival is never a great feeling. But now we’re a few days out and it’s officially time to start looking ahead to the next event — in other words, it’s time to get hyped.

For some of you, that next event will be EDC’s flagship festival. But for those of you who won’t be able to jet off to Vegas in two weeks, pay attention to these next few sentences. On June 9th, Starscape Festival brings the garden of Eden to Baltimore’s Ft. Armistead park for the fourteenth year in a row, and by all accounts it’s going to be bigger and better than ever.

There are two things to take away from the above infographic. First: Sixteen hours of nonstop music. Yes, you read that correctly. Sixteen hours. By the beard of Zeus. And second: Holy facemelt, Batman, that lineup is insane. I don’t even want to run through it because I’ll probably wind up transcribing it in its glorious, dubstep/DnB-heavy entirety. But for the sake of conversation…

Flux Pavilion. Chase and Status. Modestep. Shpongle. Funtcase. Camo & Krooked. Noisia. Cookie Monsta. Zomboy. Dieselboy. Skism. Terravita. Bare. Delta Heavy. Figure. Mimosa. GOODNESS. That is quite literally a litany of filth. Then we’ve got Sazon Booya, Tittsworth, and ETC!ETC! bringing the moombah love. And finally, a few nondescript, under the radar acts you’ve probably never even heard of: Zedd, Dillon Francis, Kill The Noise, and Dada Life. Who are those guys? Yeah, no idea.

If Knife Party’s Rage Valley EP can’t come soon enough, if you find yourself head knocking unabashedly at your desk at work, if you hate it when festivals end at 11 p.m. and you don’t know what to do with yourself, if you enjoy watching the sunrise from a beach….then Starscape has your name on it. Middy and I will be out in full force bringing the FNT party. We hope to see you there!
