Much like the hit love song of the early 2000’s, T Pain’s “I’m ‘n Luv (Wit a Stripper)”, Disfunktion, a Dutch progressive house duo has not been at the forefront of peoples minds recently. It has been a while since their last official release but that has now changed. They teamed up with Australian vocalist Chris Arnott on “Right Now”, their newest offering on Zouk Recordings. In 2011 and 2012, they put out a lot of remixes and bootlegs and became known for their uplifting, progressive sound. That didn’t hold up however, as they have gone for a harder, not as melodic or generic sound since then. They have merged those two styles and the result is what we have now, a song with the uplifting feel of their early stuff as well as an example of their newer work. It’s good to see them progressing as artists because, quite honestly, their productions were starting to feel pretty bland by the end of 2012.

Ambient, Electro | Barcelona – Background (MSG Remix)

Posted by on February 2, 2014

Despite their million+ fans, I was previously unaware of Barcelona. The group has chocked their SoundCloud full of remixes, and one in particular that really made a lasting impression was MSG’s “Background” reworking. The song takes ambient elements from Barcelona’s catchy vocals and mixes them with the deep house sounds that are making their rounds across the music world. The result is pure bliss for an entire four minutes and thirty eight seconds.

Both MSG and Barcelona hail from the Northwest state of Washington, a hub for all things culture and music. The local influences allowed for this track to click on multiple levels, making it enjoyable for indie and electronic fans alike.

I encourage you all to dive in to this song and stay up to date with future releases via Barcelona’s SoundCloud page.

Hip-Hop | Ludacris – Party Girls ft. Wiz Khalifa, Jeremih, & Cashmere Cat

a

Interesting to say the least, but this song is a guaranteed banger. Flipping the “barbie girl” theme that Miguel sings with Cashmere Cat’s production on this song works perfectly. A pretty good intro verse by Ludacris as well as a quality verse from Wiz make this song a must listen. Peep it below.

Chill, Hip-Hop | Radical Something – Pure

Posted by on January 30, 2014

It’s been a hot second since we have heard anything from the Cali-based group, Radical Something, but thankfully they are back with a brand new song and video, “Pure”. The song is a refreshing switch up from the usual upbeat, poppy-sounds of summer that we usually get from the band. “Pure” is just that, a simple, melodic and slow ballad to the beauty of life and music. As we are stuck in the barren winter months it is important to take a step back and enjoy.

Rad-So, although not having to bear the sub-zero temperatures that us over on the east-coast do, are still making these cold months a tad more enjoyable. So, sit-back and take in “Pure”.

Melbourne Bounce | The Chainsmokers – #SELFIE

Posted by on January 29, 2014

At long last, the first original label release by The Chainsmokers is finally out. What started as a joke for one of their shows in December, eventually became what it is now. “#Selfie” is a melbourne bounce track that is very unique because it features a girl talking about stuff, stupid stuff. It’s hilarious. Only kind of though but it is clear who this song was made for, and that would be middle aged urban males. Or young white girls. The song is quite the departure from their typical style and even though it is a little gimmicky, it’s also an entertaining song with a pretty good drop. As you can probably guess, the music video consists of a whole lot of fan submitted selfies as well as the girl narrating as she gets ready or something. The girl actually looks exactly like I imagined she would from her voice, perfect. Just kidding she’s alright (8?/10). If you care enough to do so, I’m sure they would appreciate you purchasing the track on iTunes.

After his brief yet awesome venture into hardstyle, Jay Cosmic displays his versatility once again with a 160BPM remix of Mikkas & Amba Shepherd’s “Finally”. You can’t really classify this song into one specific genre because it has the components of many, but it does have a very strong dubstep influence.
