Amidst this facile pop culture climate—in which producers and writers alike have problematically concluded that lucrativeness follows the more nugatory and hollow creations—an artist with a clear identity and sound is at once both palpable and powerful. Hence, my enthusiasm for King Deco. A month after releasing her EP’s lead single, “One”, the full project is here, adding two mesmeric and lushly-produced tracks in “Laila” (produced by Adam Pallin) and “Ocean” (produced by Cobra Starship’s Ryland Blackinton & One Love), as well as a Kinetics verse with every bit as much of the intricateness and carefully-crafted lyricism we’ve come to expect from the astute rhymer. What is most compelling, though, about King Deco’s project, is how much depth and weight this project bears in just three songs. She excels at combining lyrical tension with her softening, tranquil harmonies, and ultimately leaves us craving a more ample dose of her world. Luckily, we don’t have to wait long, with her Euphrates EP release around the corner. For more, we spoke to the talented songstress herself:

After a few number one dance hits and a notable feature on Gym Class Heroes’ “Ass Back Home”, British singer/songwriter Neon Hitch’s stock is at an all-time high. After spending some time in Kinetics & One Love’s NYC studio, they created this smooth reinterpretation of Miley’s hit “We Can’t Stop” (in addition to some other material to be released soon), complete with improved lyrics and a downtempo, horn-driven beat from One Love that shows off the budding beatmaker’s tremendous versatility. Last night Mile Stud dropped a new #SundayStudDay installment. This week’s song “Used To Be” was originally meant for the Relief album but didn’t make the final cut. This is a slower song and has a different feel compared to the other tracks that make the album so I see why it didn’t make it, but it’s still good and needs to be heard. Electro | Phoenix — Trying To Be Cool (One Love Mix)

Last week one of my favorite bands, Phoenix, dropped their long-anticipated new album, Bankrupt! — their most recent project in almost four years. Needless to say, anything they release has been very meticulously crafted and revised, and unlike most artists’ work that I get sent these days, there weren’t any songs which I imagined could be improved or made better than they already were. Thus, when One Love sent me his remix to a favorite of the album that we shared, “Trying To Be Cool”, I was skeptical. Not only am I not generally a huge fan of remixes, but this was Phoenix. The changes here are relatively subtle, but One Love has a tremendous ear for melody, and manages to really enliven the track’s feel into more of a dance hit without losing its foundational strengths. For those looking for some higher quality music for their parties, this edit is a wonderful link between Phoenix’s terrific sound and One Love’s energetic production. Enjoy!

Let me start off by saying I’ve been waiting to see the video for this song for some time. This was originally featured on Hi-Rez’s latest project “Lost Time” and was the standout track in my opinion. It features one of my favorite and most talented upcoming artists in my opinion, Kinetics. This song has a very deep, somber feeling as does most of the project it was featured on. As for the video, it was shot by Ben Foley over at Swaggernaut Productions and fits the song well, from the story line to the black and white scenes.
