This kid Jon Waltz is an absolute star, you can’t deny it after one listen. This record is an absolute smash and the timing is incredible, school is in session, leaves are turning, and wow I just want to sit outside and jam to this. Jon Waltz is no stranger to us here, and he is easily one of the best artists to rise through the ranks over the past year. He is on a roll, making some of the best music possible on the independent circuit, I don’t think it will be too long before we start to see him in a city near you. Jon Waltz of Memphis, TN is a young maven. With already one full-length project under his belt, he has began to prep his future release. The first offering is “Anna”, a more pop-centric song, however, Waltz’s lyrical ability does not give way for the more widely-accessible sound.
Waltz speaks in his songs on a very personal level, seemingly telling you a story with every piece of work. Listen to “Anna” below and stay tuned as there is much more to come.

Jon Waltz is an interesting character. His music floats back and forth between amazingly self-aware, and uncontrollably catchy. In this particular tune with producer duo Mulherin we find Waltz gliding in an out of pockets in the production. He’s is not overpowered by the entrancing instrumental, rather the intrinsic rhymes are a perfect complement.
While Jon still works to find his exact niche in the overarching and massively expanding genre of “rap”, it is nice to hear a rapper who can add value to the increasingly complex production of this day and age.

After numerous praise-worthy singles, the time has finally come for Jon Waltz’s full project. Accompanied by a unique story and visual representation, “Alyss”, proves to be an incredibly cohesive and well thought-out body of work.
In my mind, Waltz is still actively searching to find his voice, as well as his core audience. There are moments on the EP where one can hear obvious Drake influences, or perhaps the out layer of a Skizzy Mars shell that is shedding. That being said, Jon Waltz and “Alyss” speak to a very different group of people than both of the aforementioned artists.
For kids trying to find their place in the world, or young adults that simply like to question why things happen the way they do, “Alyss” is a must listen.

Jon Waltz has yet to tap the pages of Fresh New Tracks, however, with two incredibly strong releases now under his belt, the time has come. Following up the hard hitting yet crooning, “Video Girl”, Waltz has returned with the slightly more somber, “Home”.
Perhaps it’s the shedding of the Skizzy Mars-esque shell, or perhaps it’s simply his ever growing maturity, but there is an element in Waltz’s new tunes that expose his true star power. Not to say we’ll see an overnight success story, but “Home” is another piece of evidence to show that Waltz’s writing, beat selection, and own identity are all coming to fruition.
It will be an exciting ride for the young kid from Memphis, so buckle up and listen.
