Events | Electric Zoo Phase 3 Lineup Announcement

Electric Zoo 2012

Made Event’s Electric Zoo has announced the third phase of its lineup, filling in the blanks on stages outside of the two mainstages. There have been a few additions to the mainstages, like Deniz Koyu, Henrix and Vicetone, two guys we are really proud to see make to the MainStage. This round fills in the rest of the label and style specific tents like the Sunday School Groove tent, where you will find your dance music snobs and underground aficionados posted up all three days, the Riverside Tent, hosting Dim Mak, Dog Blood vs OWLSA & Fools Gold with names like Olver, RL Grime, Jacques Lu Cont, Alvin Risk, Congorock, & Yolande be Cool all in support.

One stage that is very interesting is the Hilltop Stage because of the eclectic nature of the artists each day. At first it seems like there is no rhyme or reason for the choices there, but depending on set times, it could be one of the best stages because of the transitions from uplifting trance in John O’Callaghan to a guy like Torro Torro and then to Bauuer, all within three time slots. It is a little disappointing to not see a trance stage, but with guys like Orjan Nilsen, Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Khoma and Aly & Fila on the MainStage, trance will be just fine. Also many trance stages at US festivals have devolved into electro / big room sets with a smattering of trance sprinkled in, so it is not surprising to see one not there. There are still tickets on sale, with single day passes now being made available, and there are still a few artists to come, so be on the lookout for that. Grab your tickets here. Check the full lineup after the jump.

House | Depeche Mode – Soothe My Soul (Steve Angello and Jacques Lu Cont Remix)

Depeche Mode - Soothe My Soul (Steve Angello & Jacques Lu Cont Remix)
After his subpar free release a few weeks ago with Wayne & Woods for the Mio Energy Facebook campaign (try the stuff, it gets you WIRED), Steve Angello gives his first real glimspe at life behind the production curtain post Swedish House Mafia. Stuart Price dons his Jacques Lu Cont moniker for this remix as the two dance music icons link up to put their spin on the first single from Depeche Mode’s 13th studio album.

The remix keeps much of the sound and style of the original, while allowing for experimentation and nuanced additions by Jacques Lu Cont and Steve Angello, slowly building a synth laden climax over the course of the entire song. This track leans more towards Jacques Lu Cont’s current productions and you probably won’t be hearing this in a Steve Angello set, but it is nice to see him show off the variety he possesses in production. Maybe when he puts his Mescal Kid hat on, he would bring out this one.

DJ-Set, House | DIrty South Essential Mix 3/16/13

Coming off of his debut album “Speed of Life“, Dirty South has taken over the reigns of the legendary essential mix to showcase his own new music as well some new tunes from his label and others. With Ultra dominating the dance music discussion, Dirty South had the untenable task of trying to create a set that would capture the hearts and minds of those in Miami or who wish they were. There are a few bootlegs in here, but overall this mix is not about strong mixing skills, but rather a great track selection and brand new tunes from start to finish.

Dirty South starts out with the title track of his album “Speed Of Life”, adding in the vocals from “City Of Dreams”and then moves through one of the several premiers from his own Phazing Records, Those Unusual Suspects’ “Blaze”. Later on we get the first glimpse of what is to come from Michael Brun’s upcoming EP on Phazing with his single with Zashanell “Halfway”. The Australian star puts on full display unreleased tracks from major labels like Size, Spinnin and Mau5trap with tracks such as “Liceu” from Sebjak & Marcus Shossow and “Here & Now” from Ummet Ozcan. He gives the radio premier of the Jacques Lu Cont remix of his still potent “City Of Dreams”, keeping the same melodic properties of the original, while adding his own twist and has the exclusive of Ivan Gough vs Steve Bleas & Stevie Mink’s “Boom”, forthcoming on Size Records and a new Pryda record “F.A.T.”, something that always gets the blood flowing. Pryda did very well last night with not only the premier of this record, but the even bigger “Power Drive” on Pete Tong’s Essential Selection, a track that is to be part of his next EP. While this essential may not stack up against the epic Eric Prydz essential mix back in February, but then again there may not be any that will, the Aussie has put in a very strong mix to continue his outstanding start to the year.

House | The Killers – Flesh and Bone (Jacques Lu Cont Remix)

Posted by on September 15, 2012

Stewart Price has always had an ear for an original, refreshing sound, embodied by his various pseudonyms that take on his various musical personalities and the this remix from his moniker Jacques Lu Cont is no different. He keeps much of the original mood of the track, adding his own unique flair of fitting piano chords and a pitched top line to give the track more of a dance feel. Jacques Lu Cont has been making the most of this year with a plethora of releases to his name and with this remix and more to come, this willy vet shows no signs of slowing.

DJ-Set, House | Coldplay – Charlie Brown (Jacques Lu Cont Mix)

Posted by on August 8, 2012

The more I listen to this song, the more I love it. It flawlessly combines dark, club elements with happy vibes from the Coldplay original. He keeps much of the original melody and the vocals, while adding his own spin on it with a quick moving snare, an infectious whistle top line that will get stuck in your head, a dark, grungy melody to give this track almost a dual personality with the various styles coming together and mixing impeccably. You have to expect this from a veteran such as Stewart Price and we will see more from him soon. Also check out his Essential Mix recently aired on BBC Radio One, which despite his longtime friendship with Pete Tong and support from the radio station was his first mix. It combines a plethora of different sounds from nu-disco to techno to tech to progressive and everything in between. Tracklist after the jump.

Electro, House, Videos | Miike Snow – Paddling Out (Remixes EP)

Posted by on March 12, 2012

After the release on the Miike Snow band’s new album ‘Happy To You,’ we finally have the great remixes of ‘Paddling Out.’ Now the Jacques Lu Cont and Carli remixes are great, but we all know the only one people really want is the Wolfgang Gartner remix. Wolfgang’s remix is awesome. I am a big fan of the Miike Snow band, and Wolfgang Gartner did more than good justice to this track. The vocals had to stay in their entirety for sure, and the beat he drops on us is banger status. Now I know these remixes are only out on iTunes UK, but if you click here you know I wouldn’t leave you hanging on the Wolfgang Gartner remix. For the rest of you that want the other tracks, sadly you are on your own.
