Heeeeey. This is BIG LIFE, and you’re reading another post about another episode of Heldeep Radio. This week, Oliver Heldens brings you tracks from Drop Dopers, Bakermat, Shiba San, and more. Did you read that in Oliver Heldens voice that sounds like Charlie Brown’s teacher circa 1970? I hope so. How no one has pointed this out yet is beyond me. Regardless, Oliver Heldens is my favorite artist at the moment and I can’t wait to catch a show. I wake up every Saturday morning like an excited child on Christmas to listen to a new episode every week. It’s that good. Oliver Heldens. Heldeep Radio. Love to get too deep.

You’re now in the mix. Niiiiiiiice. *Oliver Heldens Voice*

Girl Fire | Oliver Heldens f. KStewart- Last All Night (Koala)

We’ve made our feelings pretty well known to the blogosphere about Oliver Helden’s original “Koala” track that dropped a few months ago. To say we didn’t like it would be putting it nicely. Premiered on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show last night, Oliver offers up the vocal version titled “Last All Night” with KStewart via FFRR. KStewart’s vocal contribution is notable, adding some much needed depth and variation to the track. I still think the drop is suspiciously similar to “Gecko” and I’m not going to back down from that criticism. Many of our counterparts in the blog world agree. Oliver may sound like Charlie Brown’s teacher, but he makes damn good tunes and you have to respect him for the shift in the “EDM” space he’s creating. Here’s to hoping Oliver finds a new synth to incorporate into his future house sound. If you’re into this, be sure to pick up the pre-order available below.

Hip-Hop, Pop | Jared Evan – One Good Thing [Music Video]

Jared Evan. Don’t forget that name. I came across the multi talented musician hailing from NYC a couple of weeks ago on DJBooth and instantly found myself replaying his free debut EP, The 4th Chapter. Jared is a very special artist because his style is so unique and fuses so many different genres. In his song “Traffic Light”, my personal favorite, he confidently opens up his rap verse by saying, “You say I’m rock but I’m not, I’m hip-hop but I’m pop, and all they label me as is a Kid Rock with a shot“, before diving further into how his style is often defined. If you’re wondering who’s singing and who’s rapping on each track, know that Jared is doing both. Beginning as a rapper, he decided he would prefer to fill the bridges with his own voice rather than finding someone who could deliver exactly what he was looking for on each track. Rapping, singing, drums, guitar, piano, self production, the list goes on for Jared.

While the EP has a little bit of everything to offer, the video above for “One Good Thing” epitomizes the beauty of music. This is one of the most powerful messages in the album and tells a lot about Jared as an artist and as a person. If you L-O-V-E this song and video, be sure to grab the entire FreEP below.
