Trance, Videos | Above & Beyond Group Therapy 50 Aftermovie + “Mariana Trench”

Posted by on December 7, 2013

About a month ago Above & Beyond celebrated their 500th radio show, or Group Therapy Radio 50, at the birthplace of broadcasting, Alexandria Palace, in London. The sold-out show brought people from all over the world for a unforgettable night of Group Therapy with performances from Guy J, Boom Jinx, Andrew Bayer, Arty and of course the full cast of Above & Beyond. You can listen to all of the sets again on iTunes. The duo have been busy this fall, cooking up new productions of all varieties including their recently released single, “Mariana Trench”, which came out this week. In other news, they announced that they will be releasing a FULL acoustic album, coming off of their two night showing at the Greek Theater in LA.

Electronic, Videos | Andrew Bayer – Need Your Love (Music Video)

Posted by on September 12, 2013

A little throwback Thursday (kind of) here with this video from Andrew Bayer and Anjunabeats. His album “If It Were You, We’d Never Leave” has been my favorite dance music album since “Group Therapy”. “Need Your Love” was just released in a club mix form, making it amenable to the club or festival setting, as Above & Beyond showed at Electric Zoo. The video takes us on a journey through the stunning forests of Southern Poland in the Tatra Mountains. The scenery fits the beauty of the track to a t. If you don’t have the album, check our review here.

Events | The Worst Lineup Conflicts At Electric Zoo – And How To Handle Them

Waiting for festival schedules to drop is always a funny thing. On the one hand, you’re antsy for set times because you want to start planning your weekend. On the other, you know that when the announcement comes it will invariably serve to confirm all your worst fears about lineup conflicts — terrible, unspeakable conflicts which will surely force you to choose between two or more of your favorite artists. Such conflicts have been known to divide friend groups, start arguments, and lead to tears. Okay, we’re being dramatic, but you know you totally feel us. Electric Zoo is no different, so check out what we think are some of the most glaring and painful conflicts of the weekend — and our advice for dealing with them — after the jump.

(Note: one thing we do know is that those who enter Sunday School Grove probably won’t be racing out to hit the mainstage at many junctures during the weekend, so there aren’t too many conflicts to contend with there. Not bad, eh?)

Events | Five Things We Can’t Wait For At Electric Zoo 2013

Posted by on August 8, 2013

Summer is flying by, which is bittersweet on one hand but totally amazing on the other. Why? Because it means that we’re getting closer and closer to Electric Zoo’s blowout fifth year. If you’re not up on your EZoo life, check out our official recap video from last year and see what you missed. Yeah — it was pretty killer. Fortunately, this year is already shaping up to be bigger and better than ever for many reasons, not least of which are:

1) Two mainstages (count ’em, TWO) and an expanded festival site on Randall’s Island. More on that later.

2) A new 18 and up policy. Sorry, youths (#YOUTHS) of the world — I’m too old for your shenanigans and look forward to mingling with an older and wiser crowd. *Wheezes; testily gestures for you to GET OFF MY LAWN.*

3) A totally killer lineup — which is par for the course by EZoo’s standards. There’s lots to be excited about here, but we’ve come up with five things that we’re especially stoked for. Check ’em out after the jump.

Trance | ilan Bluestone & Jerome Isma-Ae – Under My Skin

Posted by on June 24, 2013

ilan Bluestone & Jerome Isma-Ae - Under My SkinAs Anjunabeats moves on from its well-documented landmark 10th compilation released in March, first with Norin & Rad‘s “Bird Is The Word“ last week, they look to another label favorite in ilan Bluestone, who teams up with Jerome Isma-Ae to give us the hauntingly beautiful “Under My Skin“. First capturing the imagination of trance fans in Miami as the most saught after ID in Above & Beyond‘s UMF set, “Under My Skin” combines soothing, emotive strings and piano, with a pulsing, yet melodic synth driven drop, that makes this one of the standout releases on Above & Beyond’s label thus far this year. ilan Bluestone has been a steady riser on scene in the past year or two with a bevy or remixes and originals on Anjunabeats and Armada, including his heavily supported remix for BT‘s “Skylarking“, while Jerome Isma-Ae has long cemented himself as one of the stable forces in trance and progressive. This is a dynamite release from Anjunabeats so do not skip this one.

Events, Videos | Watch: Above & Beyond’s Incredible Wynn Promo Video

Posted by on May 18, 2013

Above & Beyond WynnNormally I don’t even bother to watch these videos or even given them the slightest thought because they are all the same. It is some DJ saying just “how excited” he is to be playing at X club in Vegas, as they pay him some exhorbinant amount of money to schmooze with VIPs wasting thousands on bottle service. Deadmau5 will be making 850,000 dollars per show at Hakkasan over the next 2 years if you want an idea of the money being thrown around. However, Above & Beyond, never one to follow the trend, come up with an innovative and incredible video, taking James Bond influences and apply it to their promo video for their short residency at the Wynn and their various clubs. Watch it all the way through, it is great to see their personalities and decent acting abilities shine through. Dates for their shows are below and you can get more info on the Wynn website here.

May 18 Encore Beach Club

Trance | Above & Beyond – Walter White

Posted by on May 2, 2013

Walter White
If there is anyone I would want to embody the cunning, vicious, daring, ruthless, calculated nature of Walter White aka Heisenberg, Above & Beyond would be on my short list. One of the highlights of Anjunabeats Volume 10, and their recent live sets, the relentless, remorseless “Walter White” shows a departure from their typical “Group Therapy” style that has placed them uniquely among the trance greats. Quick pulsing electro begins rights away and gives way to a tranced out break, reminding us of the euphoric power of Above & Beyond, but then just like Walter White, as soon as you think you are out of the woods, quick bursts of booming synths come into the foreground, aided by growling electro.
