Less than a week into 2013, here are the songs that continue to have the strongest possible association for me with the crazy year that was 2012. Note: heavy on the trance.

7) Solarstone with Aly & Fila – Fireisland (Aly & Fila Uplifting Mix)

6) John O’Callaghan – Stresstest (John Askew Remix) [Armin’s “Abruptly The Sound Ceased” Live Edit]

This is kind of a cheat, because this specific version of the remix that includes the vocal sample has only aired in Armin’s live sets. However, it’s one of my favorite things to come out of 2012, so a spot it deserves.

Overplayed though it was, this is the song that defined 2012 for me. The opening chords will always take me right back to UMF, EDC, and the entire insane summer that followed. Without a doubt my song of the year.
